(12) Penn State (7-1) at Northwestern (5-3)

Saturday, October 31st, 4:30 p.m. (et)

GAME NOTES: The 12th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions march into Evanston, where they will hook up with the Northwestern Wildcats in Big Ten action this weekend at Ryan Field.

The Lions are coming off another solid win, as they defeated Michigan, 35-10, on the road this past weekend.

“Overall, I think everybody just made up their mind that we were going to show people we were a pretty good football team, and they came out here and played well,” said head coach Joe Paterno.

The win was PSU’s first in Ann Arbor since 1996, as the Lions improved to 6-1 over their last seven road games dating back to last season. Winners of four straight, the Lions are certainly on a roll as they gear up for a date with Ohio State next weekend.

For the Wildcats, they are coming off a more dramatic win, using a late field goal to rally for a 29-28 win over Indiana last weekend. Northwestern overcame a 25-point deficit, the largest in program history, for its third win in four games.

“Wow, what a game,” said head coach Pat Fitzgerald. “It was the tale of two halves. I thought at halftime we made some subtle adjustments in all three phases and our players did a good job taking to those adjustments and went out and made it happen.”

Northwestern is now 5-3 on the campaign, but is facing its toughest stretch, with the team’s final four opponents owning a combined record of 21-9.

The Wildcats and Lions are clashing for just the 13th time on the gridiron and the first since 2006, with PSU holding a 9-3 lead in the head-to-head series.

The Lions turned in a complete performance on offense last weekend, as they rushed for 166 yards and threw for 230, while avoiding any turnovers in a win at Michigan. Quarterback Daryll Clark was terrific in the win and he completed 16-of-27 pass attempts for 230 yards and four touchdowns.

“I thought [Daryll] Clark played a great game,” said Paterno. “In all fairness I don’t think Daryll’s received the credit he should have, because he’s really played great football. People have been critical of him, but people didn’t catch the ball.”

Clark is in the midst of a rather noteworthy campaign and he has completed 62.1 percent of his tosses, with 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also has four rushing scores, giving him 55 career touchdowns, the most by any PSU player.

Spreading out the ball has helped make Clark successful, as four players have already caught at least 20 passes. Derek Moye leads the team with 33 receptions and 525 yards, while Graham Zug is tops with five touchdown catches. Against Michigan, Zug was the player who shined with five catches for 59 yards and three touchdowns.

Evan Royster even enjoyed success last weekend, as he rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries. It was the fourth 100-yard effort this season by Royster, who has rushed for 741 yards, helping PSU average a solid 184.4 ypg on the ground this year.

PSU leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 8.9 ppg, and it has held six of its first eight opponents to 10 points or less for the first time since the 1973 season. The unit is giving up a mere 240.2 total ypg, including a measly 79.8 rushing ypg, and the group has also recorded 26 sacks.

The Lions’ defense was all over Michigan last weekend and surrendered only 250 total yards. The unit notched four takeaways and five sacks, while holding Michigan to just a 3-of-15 effort on third downs.

Navorro Bowman had a big game in the win, finishing with 11 tackles, a fumble recover, interception and sack. He now has 44 stops, including nine for losses, in six games, proving he is an top linebacker.

“So I think that there’s no question he’s a fine linebacker,” said Paterno. “He’s one of the better linebackers in the country. And I hope we can keep him healthy.”

Stefan Demos nailed a 19-yard field goal with 21 seconds left to play, as the Wildcats scored 26-unanswered points to edge Indiana, 29-28, over the weekend. Northwestern trailed 28-3 midway through the second quarter before taking over and it drove 65 yards in 6:43 to set up the game-wining field goal.

The Wildcats fell behind early due to some mistakes, as quarterback Mike Kafka was picked off three times. He, however, rebounded by throwing for 312 yards and two scores and rushing for 65 yards and a third touchdown.

“I take responsibility for all of them, without a doubt,” said Kafka about the interceptions. “It’s definitely something we can fix up and clean up for next week and it’s obviously great to get the win and be able to have an opportunity to learn from those mistakes.”"

Kafka has had some issues with turnovers this season, but he is a huge part of this offense and has completed 66.1 percent of his throws for 2,067 yards. He is also the team’s top rusher with 206 yards and five touchdowns to his credit. Northwestern is averaging 392.6 total ypg behind Kafka, who will need to be sharp against PSU’s stout defense this weekend.

Zeke Markshausen is Kafka’s main outlet with 58 catches and 553 yards, but Andrew Brewer is also dangerous, racking up 519 receiving yards and five scores. Last weekend, both players hauled in eight passes and a touchdown and they combined for 229 receiving yards.

Northwestern’s defense had some struggles early on last weekend, but came on strong and held Indiana without a point in the second half. The unit gave up just 305 total yards, below its season average of 338.1 ypg, and limited Indiana to only 13 first downs and even came up with a crucial goal line stand.

“The defense pitched a shutout with a big fourth down play down at the goal line and getting us off the field,” said coach Fitzgerald.

The defense however, didn’t come up with any takeaways and managed just one sack and that was surprising. The Wildcats have forced 18 turnovers and recorded 20 sacks this season, so they obviously can make big plays.

Quentin Davie heads the defense with 59 stops, eight TFLs and four sacks and he had six tackles last weekend.

PSU is rolling along, but the Wildcats have a lot to play for and should give the Lions all they can handle. The Lions’ defense should make the difference, although Northwestern could hang around if Kafka can do a better job of protecting the ball. Penn State will Roll!!!!

(3) Texas (7-0) at (13) Oklahoma State (6-1)

Saturday, October 31st, 8:00 p.m. (et)

GAME NOTES: A top-25 battle is set for Stillwater this weekend, as the third- ranked Texas Longhorns take on the 13th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in a crucial Big 12 battle in Boone Pickens Stadium.

Mack Brown’s Longhorns are well on their way to a Big 12 South title with one of their last real hurdles coming in the form of the Cowboys. Texas is undefeated on the year at 7-0 and 4-0 in league play, and enters this game following perhaps the team’s most impressive victory to date, a 41-7 dismantling of Missouri in Columbia last weekend.

Mike Gundy’s Cowboys have been one of the more resilient teams in the country this year. Despite losing a great deal of star power, OSU remains in the hunt for the Big 12 South title at 3-0 in league play. The team kept its perfect conference record intact with last weekend’s 34-7 rout of Baylor, Oklahoma State’s fifth straight win.

Gundy knows the kind of team his squad will be facing on Saturday.

“We’re playing a very, very good football team. I don’t think there is any question, depending on who you talk to, that this could probably be the best football team in the country.”

This series has gone Texas’ way almost exclusively, with OSU winning just two of the 23 all-time meetings (in 1944 and 1997). Mack Brown is a flawless 11-0 against the Cowboys. Despite the advantage heavily favoring the Longhorns in the series, the matchups of late have been very competitive, including last year’s 28-24 Texas victory in Austin.

Colt McCoy is one of the top quarterbacks in the country and played like it last time out against Missouri, completing an efficient 26-of-31 passes, for 269 yards and three TDs in the lopsided win.

Efficient play has not been a problem for this offenses, as Texas leads the nation in scoring (41.9 ppg). Balance is the key, with the Longhorns showing the ability to dominate both on the ground (164.0 ypg) and through the air (274.1 ypg).

McCoy has fought through illness and injury this season but has still completed a sterling 71.7 percent of his throws for 1,806 yards and 14 TDs. It doesn’t hurt to have one of the nation’s top receiving threats to go to downfield in Jordan Shipley (58 catches, for 713 yards and five TDs). Shipley is red-hot right now, coming off the Missouri game in which he hauled in seven balls, for 108 yards and two scores.

There aren’t many teams getting it done on defense the way Texas is. The Longhorns lead the nation in rush defense (41.3 ypg), rank second in total defense (235.6 ypg) and ninth in scoring defense (13.6 ppg).

The play along the defensive line is headlined by rush ends Sergio Kindle (team-high 9.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks) and Sam Acho (7.0 TFLs, team-high 5.0 sacks). The linebacking corps features standout Roddrick Muckelroy (team-high 46 tackles, 7.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks). Disruptive playmakers like LB Emmanuel Acho (8.0 TFLs) and tackle Lamarr Houston (8.0 TFLs) are also getting the job done in the front seven. Safety Earl Thomas (35 tackles, five INTs) is a ballhawk in the secondary.

Brown has very little to complain about in regards to his defense.

“The defense continues to play at a really high level. You can win championships with defense, and our guys are forcing much more turnovers than they did last year. We are really excited about watching them force turnovers and stop the running game and being physical on defense, and we need to continue to do that especially on the road.”

The OSU offense has had to make some adjustments with the loss of both All- Americans Dez Bryant and Kendall Hunter. While there is some good news with the probable return of Hunter this week, it was announced on Tuesday that Bryant’s current suspension will last through the 2009 season as ruled on by the NCAA.

The one constant this year has been the play of quarterback Zac Robinson. The veteran signal-caller has completed over 65 percent of his passes, for 1,547 yards, with 12 TDs and just three INTs.

Gundy has certainly recognized the play of his signal-caller of late.

“He’s playing well right now. He’s playing with more confidence. He’s managed the game very well. In my opinion, being a good quarterback is being able to manage the game in understanding what your strengths are and where their weaknesses are and try to attack those areas using what your strengths are as an offense. I think he’s done a pretty good job of that over the last few weeks.”

Robinson has also helped a ground game that is averaging a steady 185.6 yards per game, despite its best tailback being sidelined for five games. In Hunter’s absence, RB Keith Totson has emerged as a viable option, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and six TDs.

No one will be able to replace Bryant’s playmaking ability down the field, but Hubert Anyiam has done his best to help assuage the loss, pacing the team in receptions (23) going for 306 yards and two TDs.

While the OSU defense had some tough outings early in the season, it is playing much better of late, including a smothering performance at Baylor last week. The unit is giving up 20.0 ppg and while the pass defense has been suspect (253.1 ypg), the rush defense has been solid (99.0 ypg).

Senior middle linebacker Donald Booker has led by example this season and currently paces the team in total tackles (52), TFLs (6.0) and sacks (four). Senior strong safety Lucien Antoine (43 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, one sack, one INT and three forced fumbles) has played lights out in the secondary. Senior LB Patrick Levine (38 tackles, three TFLs, three INTs) contributes to a steady veteran corps of defenders in Stillwater.

The Longhorns are winding up a grueling four-game stretch and with Hunter’s likely return this week, this could be the perfect time for OSU to spring an upset and start to cloud up the BCS picture.

(4) U-S-C (6-1) at (10) Oregon (6-1)

Saturday, October 31st, 8:00 p.m. (et)

GAME NOTES: A key pac-10 title takes place in Eugene this weekend, as the fourth-ranked USC Trojans invade Autzen Stadium to take on the 10th-ranked Oregon Ducks.

Pete Carroll’s Trojans avenged their only loss from 2008 with last weekend’s 42-36 shootout win over Oregon State. With the team’s fourth straight win, the seven-time Pac-10 champions moved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Carroll realizes that there is no room for error in the conference.

“This is a huge matchup for us and I think the team that wins the conference is going to have to win out. You know, I think you’re going to have to do that. It’s going to be amazingly challenging throughout the schedule.”

The only team ahead of USC in the conference standings is Oregon. Since dropping the season-opener to Boise State, Chip Kelly’s Ducks have really turned things around, winning six in a row, including a 43-19 rout of Washington in Seattle last weekend to move to 4-0 in-conference.

USC holds a 37-16-2 advantage in the all-time series. These two teams have split the last 12 meetings, but the Trojans have won four of the last five, including a lopsided 44-10 decision last year.

Tailback Allen Bradford erupted for 147 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Trojans to the win over the Beavers last time out. The success of the ground game is nothing new for USC, which is averaging almost 200 yards per game rushing the football (198.3 ypg). With players like Bradford (7.4 ypc) and Joe McKnight (6.4 ypc) in the backfield, USC will continue to effectively run the ball.

The ground game makes things a lot easier on freshman QB Matt Barkley, who has played well despite his age. The youngster has completed just over 60 percent of his passes this year, for 1,540 yards and seven TDs. Barkley’s top target downfield is standout WR Damian Williams (34 receptions, for 525 yards, three TDs).

Despite the turnover on the defensive side of the football heading into 2009, the Trojans have actually thrived, holding opponents to just 15.1 ppg, thanks in large part to a stout run defense (79.9 ypg).

Forcing turnovers has not been easy (just nine in the first seven games), but a feverish pass rush (29 sacks) cannot be overlooked.

Up front, the team gets great pressure on the quarterback from rush ends Everson Griffin (29 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, 8.0 sacks) and Nick Perry (17 tackles, 8.0 TFLs, 7.0 sacks). The linebacking corps is highlighted by Chris Galippo (48 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, one INT) and Michael Morgan (36 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 4.0 sacks). The play in the secondary is led by two-time All- American Taylor Mays (team-high 49 tackles, one INT).

USC’s rush defense will be put to the ultimate test in Eugene, as Oregon possesses one of the top ground games in the country, averaging 210.7 yards per game (14th nationally), on 4.7 yards per carry.

The team lost a key piece to the ground attack in the season-opener with the suspension of LeGarrette Blount, but that has allowed freshman LaMichael James to emerge. James is averaging nearly seven yards per carry (6.9) and 105.0 yards per game. He is also responsible for six of the team’s 19 rushing scores to date and is a real concern for the Trojans according to Carroll.

“LaMichael is averaging 6.9 per carry so he is obviously had tremendous games, a lot of big, long break out plays where he’s leaving guys in the dust.”

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has completed over 60 percent of his throws thus far, but is a real threat to run as well, netting 4.6 yards per carry and leading the team with seven TDs on the ground.

The passing attack nets just 157.4 yards per game, but opponents still have to concern themselves with standout tight end Ed Dickson (27 receptions, for 362 yards, four TDs).

The Oregon defense is just as responsible for Oregon’s success as the offense, if not more so. The stop unit for the Ducks is allowing just under 300 yards of offense per game (297.1) and it has led to a mere 16.7 ppg for the opposition. Big plays have been the norm, with the team registering 19 takeaways and 22 sacks.

Defensive end Kenny Rowe has been the team’s best pass rusher, coming off the edge to record seven sacks so far. Linebacker Casey Matthews (44 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one INT) has done a great job in the middle of the field. The secondary, which has had to deal with season-ending injuries to players like Willie Glasper (knee) and Walter Thurmond III (knee), still possesses playmakers like safeties Javes Lewis (44 tackles, one sack, two INTs, one fumble recovery) and John Boyett (43 tackles, two INTs) and cover corner Talmadge Jackson III (26 tackles, two INTs).

Coach Kelly has been impressed with the defensive effort of late.

“You know I think they play together, they have a great understanding of the system. The players know exactly how they fit within that system. They play with passion, there’s not one individual star on that side of the ball. We’ve obviously seen some injuries in the secondary, but everyone’s got a chance to step up, a chance to play. They’ve really done a good job, and it’s just really how well we practice and how well they prepare I think is the key to our success right now on defense.”

This one could very well decide the Pac-10 title. The seven-time champs are already a game back in the standings and if they struggle to get off to a good start here, the Ducks have the kind of ground game to preserve a lead and move a huge step toward a conference crown.

How People Become Addicted

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

Why do people become addicted? What is the fundamental mechanism? Of course, this question has been answered to varying degrees and in varying ways. Whether you consider the physical aspects of addiction where changes occur in the brain, or the psychological mechanism that triggers an addiction many theories already exist.

This article is strictly my opinion. It is my personal attempt to understand addiction and I don’t claim to have any scientific backing for my model of addiction. Nor do I seek any. I’m merely trying to understand addiction in terms that make sense to me personally. If this is useful to you in some way, then so much the better.

Addiction can be a powerful force in our lives. I hold that addiction occurs with each of us to varying degrees. Drug and alcohol addictions are the most obvious to us because their destructive effects are very evident. But what about those addictions that are not so obvious. Do you have a favorite food? A favorite song? Why do we choose one thing over another? Why do people choose differently?

On a purely physical realm it appears that our brains become stimulated in a certain way that we enjoy and therefore we are left with a memory that is pleasurably associated with a certain stimulus such as a sound or a taste or a sensation. Could this be the basis for addiction?

Since we are beings with an organic component, this makes complete sense. Once an impression is made on us it is either postivive or negative and we have a ‘feeling’ that goes with that. Being creatures that enjoy pleasure over pain we naturally seek to relive positive experiences and avoid negative ones.

Therefore, if we had an experience that triggered a negative feeling, such as the taste of garlic, then we may forever hate the taste of garlic. Yet, someone else’s early experience or experiences with garlic may have been quite pleasurable. Therefore, they actually enjoy the taste and smell of garlic even to the point that they always use it or cook with it.

Being similar in our organic components, how can such divergent reactions occur?
The only differential seems to be the original experience itself and how we reacted to it. That experience and reaction creates a record in our brains. This must be how two different brains can have such different reactions to the same substance or experience.

Then are we at the mercy of our first experience in regards to any particular stimuli?
Yes, if we don’t do anything about it. However, if we really exert our will, we should be able to change our reaction to virtually anything.

Therefore, through exertion of willpower an addiction, any addiction, should be defeatable. Of course, things are not necessarily that simple in the real world. But in principle and in my opinion, it seems to be this way.

Otherwise, we would simply be robots at the mercy of these addictions that exist to varying degrees. I think most people would agree that is not the case. Also, it would contradict the gift of freewill that I believe we all have been granted. There are some things that we don’t get to choose in this life yet there are many things that we may exert our personal choice over. I believe that addiction is one of those things we can choose not to have. Maybe it takes hard work to beat an addiction but I think we do have an option in this regard.

If I’m correct, then the most important component to beating an addiction is the willingness to do so, coupled by the intensity of the desire to beat the addiction. It seems certain that the person must be willing at some level to be rid of an addiction in order for that freedom to occur.

Soccer Coaching Tips:Turn Amateurs Into Professionals

Youth Soccer Coaching Tips

You will be amazed to see how big these soccer coaching tips can prove to be for your team. Does it bother you that your team is not taking the drills seriously, or that your plans are not working?

Take note of these winning instructions that will not just improve the morale of your players but also put them to winning ways.

1. Make Elaborate Preparations: It is only half battle won but is crucial to the achievement of your goals. Interact with the players in the team, gauge their opinions, give them due credit, and then use them in your plan. Only that success is sweet that comes within a time-frame you expected it to. As the days pass by, its importance begins to diminish. There should always be scope for improvements, big or small. Even the best plans stand the test of possible failure due to unforeseen circumstances. Flexible plans are the best plans.

2. Ensure that the players have great workouts: When the drills are the same day after day, the kids are bound to shy away from practice and you cannot blame them. Use different forms to introduce the element of fun and excitement. For example, once the regular drill is done with, you can divide them into smaller groups and introduce fun games that not only relax their mind but also promote team spirit among them.

3. Be strict as well as friendly: You can be successful as a coach only when you keep the players within the boundary of rules. These soccer coaching tips can do wonders to your team.
Ensure that the players have sufficient time to interact with each other and exchange meaningful dialog. This also gives them opportunity to explore themselves. It is also a good idea to take them out for camping or any other excursion for a day.

4. Be supportive and tolerant: Encourage your team to try new things and when you do so, also be tolerant of the mistakes that they make in the process. Being harsh towards mistakes can prevent a kid from trying new things. This is not at all desirable and therefore you must find a way out to correct the issues without reprimanding the players. Your success as a coach is measured by how well the kids are able to execute new ideas or recover from failures. That is the yardstick of your performance.

5. Maintain Harmony and good judgment: A soccer field is where you will appreciate true skills of the players. A winning team blends the positive points of all the players, although there are negative points as well. You can use your strong players to bring the ones who aren’t up to the mark to the desired level. Every player has something to give to the team. However, you can always uplift the performances of some of the players in the team by helping them learn from their peers. Grouping the players is a great idea so that they can learn from each other.

Youth soccer coaching is a dynamic and difficult job. It is difficult to make players deliver under excessive strain. However, these soccer coaching tips will help you get the best out of your players and the team. The next step? To take what you’ve just learned, implement it, and join our youth soccer coaching community so you can learn more and dramatically improve your coaching skills.

Ballroom Dancing DVD – A Quick Read

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

Dancing is an art; something which can be taught and learnt quite easily. Ballroom dancing is a lot different from free style dancing as this requires one to know the exact techniques behind each step. All you need to do is purchase a ballroom dancing DVD that will teach you the basics you ought to know in becoming a ballroom dancer.

It’s true that attending a ballroom dancing class would mean that a person will be able to interact with more people, helping them build new friendships, etc. But what of a person who is unable to find time to do even that? For people who have time constraints and are unable to spend money on classes, buying a ballroom dancing DVD can be the next best solution.

A ballroom dancing DVD generally has a set of instructions, steps, etc that can be easily learnt. The difference you will experience by having a ballroom dancing DVD is that you will not be in a dancing school, nor will you have an instructor telling you what to do. You will be the master of the show since you will have the option of pausing and playing each dancing move the way you want, at your own pace.

Timid and shy dancers can benefit a lot by watching a ballroom dancing DVD. Ballroom dancing classes having a number of students mean that the shy dancer will be surrounded by people he or she does not know. Even the slightest mistake made would seem disastrous in their eyes, making them feel even more self-conscious. This is why such people resort to using some type of ballroom dancing DVD as it teaches the know-how.

Sometimes you might be able to get your hands on a ballroom dancing DVD that lets you listen to your own type of music. By doing this, a person would not feel the stress which would otherwise be felt if they were in a dancing class with other people. You are able to learn the steps at the comfort of your home, whenever time permits you.

Most of the ballroom dancing classes are expensive. But if you purchase a ballroom dancing DVD, it would cost you only one-third of it. Practice sessions can be held whenever you like. Dancing is loved by almost everyone, both young and old. This is why you get ballroom dancing DVDs that can be watched by both parties. Why don’t you buy one and begin your journey of being a professional ballroom dancer?

Is Fluoride Good For You or Not?

It is quite amazing when you stop to consider all of the different ideas and notions about proper dental care.  These seemingly conflicting theories leave the patient – or more accurately – the consumer, in a sea of bewilderment most of the time.

Research like that done by Dr. Phyllis J. Mullenix, PhD. clearly makes you question even small amounts of fluoride showing up in our drinking supply and food supply – as many foods are exposed to fluoridated water. She also discusses that when they wanted to study even lower doses of fluoride for extended periods of time, that her funding was cut.

There are even dentists who are against fluoride’s use in the human body for any reason. Confusing, isn’t it? Who do we listen too? I can’t answer that question definitively for you but here are some thoughts that I will share on this aspect of dental health.

I am personally against fluoridation of drinking water. Despite the arguments in favor of forced medication of our drinking supply, I think it is wrong to ‘force’ any medication on a population. This behavior effectively side steps each person’s right to choose. On the other hand, the choice of personal dental care products is just that: a choice. Each person as the right to choose whether he uses fluoridated rinse and toothpaste.

When it comes to adding fluoride to the drinking supply, many scientists and professionals are against the use of fluoride while many others are in support of it. When you have this kind of debate between scientists, isn’t it best to error on the side of caution?  Find out which tools can improve your oral health

2009 NFL Game of the Week

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

There’s no doubt that some amazing games will be played out in the NFL over the weekend. The game of the week, and surely the very young season, will be played between the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants. The Giants head into New Orleans’ Superdome having won three out of three on the road already this season. They demolished the hapless Oakland Raiders last weekend, and gave quarterback Jemarcus Russell nightmares with their ferocious defense. They sacked him multiple times, and forced a few fumbles which led to great field position and easy scoring opportunities for the offence. The offence was firing on all cylinders with Eli Manning rattling off touchdown after touchdown to wide open receivers for a huge 28-0 lead before he was replaced by back-up quarterback David Carr in order to rest plantar fasciitis which has been troubling him for a couple of weeks. The final score of 44-7 showed no justice to how large a discrepancy there was between the teams. Surprising wide receiver Steve Smith, who has come out of nowhere to become Manning’s primary target, was again on song, as was another receiver Mario Manningham.

The Giants are rolling and they will be tough to beat, even though they are on the road for the fourth time. They have developed a very good road system, and coach Tom Coughlin will surely have them primed to defeat the as yet undefeated Saints. The Saints had the bye last week, but are sitting pretty at 4-0 behind an offence powered by quarterback Drew Brees, an early favorite for league Most Valuable Player. In his last two games, Brees was quieter than usual, but his receivers know their routes well, and will be ready should the Giants defense not get to Brees in time. My friends and I are looking forward to the rest of the season and even bought dog nfl jerseys, so our 4-legged friends can show off their true colors! Many of my friends also bought a Saints dog jersey for their pups.

Give Your Kids The Gift Of Sports

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

The outdoors is wonderful, enjoying sports and recreation activities can help bring families together. You'll want to assist your child to enjoy sports like golf, camping or fishing. These activities will help them acquire a lifelong love of the outdoors. You'll foster this by giving your kid a gift at christmas or on their birthday.

Maybe your child likes to golf? If you are a lucky parent whose child is showing good potential in learning to play golf, after buying him his beginner clubs it will be time to buy him his junior golf bag to carry them in. Smaller and slimmer than a regular sized golf bag, a junior bag should afford your junior with the essential functions that he will need while playing his golf games.

Before buying the bag for your child, make sure you think about what he will need to put in it as well as how he intends to carry it. Be aware that your kid will need far more than clubs, balls, and tees during his golf game. He'll also need his umbrella, towel, and drinking water while he plays. It will have a lot of weight on his comfort level, his energy, and generally, his game.

And how about camping? It’s often not may years into a kids life before most parents have to buy a kids sleeping bag. Their kids might be going for a sleepover at a friend's house, a night at granny's place or even camping for the first time. There's now a bewildering array of kids sleeping bags so how do you decide which one to buy?

Should you purchase a mummy shape or rectangular shape sleeping bag? Given the choices, most kids probably would pick a mummy shaped sleeping bag. Lots of manufacturers are creating good mummy shaped sleeping bags for kids. There's something about the cocoon like feeling that kids like. They'll also be warmer in a mummy shaped bag that with an open topped rectangular sleeping bag.

And how about fishing? Not unlike other types of fishing, saltwater fishing rods will be taking on the weight of a fish at awkward angles, not to mention the battle it will go through with an ordinary fish that doesn’t want to be caught. But your saltwater fishing rod will have to take more pressure and weight. Saltwater fish are not like your average river fish. Saltwater fish are bigger, wilder, and are more aggressive. And if you don’t have a saltwater fishing rod that’s ready, you will loose your fish, and your dream. Whatever, just make sure you are outfitted with the right saltwater fishing rod for your fishing venture.

sports – Artificial Turf Now Used in a Variety of Applications

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

extreme sports accident

It is not uncommon to hear or read about how much home court advantage a college sports team has, based on the team having won a high percentage of games played at home. In a recent article, “Home Court Advantage – Can You Believe All You Hear?” I addressed the issue of why this kind of analysis is flawed unless you compare percentage of home wins to percentage of away wins.

Here I am going to address a second reason why what often is mistaken to be home court advantage really isn’t. The issue is that the concept of home court advantage requires that one compare how well a team does at home with how well they do on the road, when the opponents under these two circumstances are of more or less equal ability.

History

The major credit for this invention goes to a man named David Chaney. He led a team of RTP researchers who were responsible for making the first artificial turf. According to Sports Illustrated, Chaney is a prominent figure who made possible indoor major league baseball.

It was back in 1965 when the first artificial turf became popular. The first brand AstroTurf was then installed in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. By the 1970s, the use of artificial turf in football and baseball fields in the U.S. and Canada became widespread. Europe followed a decade later in the 1980s. Through the years, the application of this artificial grass has expanded to include now more sports fields especially those meant for field hockey and lawn tennis.

Developing Healthy Communication

At this level, there is no need to ever yell or berate an athlete for a mistake. If a middle school wide receiver drops the ball or goalie lets in a shot which costs the team the game, he or she is already going to be feeling down about the mistake as is. The last thing anyone needs is a coach yelling on top of the self-criticism.

In your role as coach, what you need to do instead is calmly explain why it happened (“You took your eyes off the ball.”), say what to do next time (“Look the ball all the way into your hands.”), and provide a little trust (“I know you will do it next time.”). If you handle mistakes like this, your team will develop confidence in you and be eager to go out there again.

Pros and cons

In areas with a dry environment and a low amount of natural light, this synthetic grass is very ideal to use. As this is an artificial grass, it can be used in any type of ground and can be exposed to all types of weather without getting much damage.

In home gardens and lawns, this is also a perfect choice. Not all homeowners are free to maintain their grasses and for these people, installing artificial turf is the better solution. This can even be used in roof gardens and areas surrounding the swimming pool.

A few disadvantages cited with the use of artificial turf are skin injuries such as abrasions and turf toe. These conditions normally result from playing on synthetic grass. Also, this type of grass is hotter when exposed to the sun’s rays for a long period

The Best Soccer Formations, Tactics & Positions

Youth Soccer Training Drills

When teaching soccer formations and youth soccer drills make sure you test a variety of soccer practice drills to help the kids develop all the skills they need to work on. Your observation skills must be alert during the coaching session.

For example during certain drills, if large teams of players are involved, their heads must be up so that they don?t bump into each other. This is one of the most important aspects when in possession of the ball. If your players can’t see their partners moving in the field that it is going to be very complicated to them.

While practicing drills, many skills develop player confidence and technique, making them alert to the parts of the body they use while passing or handling the ball. Player’s brain will make the body work akmost automatically when they are im possession of the ball. The drills help them to perfect this automation. Soccer Positions are also important.

How To Juggle a Soccer Ball

This is a technique that many coaches encourage in their players since it can help in a big way. This as incredible benefits in a player’s performance. It develop several skills at the same time. When your players juggle a soccer ball let them know that you don’t want them to practice just with their feet. Chest, head and thighs must be used too. Also players to tend only their best foot when performing the drills, so make them use both feet as they will need to be good at both during competition.

The player must practice and concentrate on controlled touch with the ball to make his juggling effective. If he doesn?t, his touches will go awry. In all game situations ball control is always present. Some touches will be bad and the player will lose the ball. But by practicing more and more, they will collect the rewards and will be juggling perfectly in no time flat.

The body position is also important. Teach your players thr right bosy posture so that they can maximize their changes to succeed. Make sure you tell the kids that if they want to juggle a soccer ball with perfection they will have to practice a lot. The kids should try to practice in 1 square foot. This will make them contro, the ball better. As your players start to improve make them move forward while they juggle at the same time. You can even make it harder by placing obstacles in the way or by limiting the time.

Motivate your players to train at least 15 minutes every day and they will become good at it very fast. When teaching soccer tactics strategies, there is nothing like a real game situation to implement the techniques you teach at the practice sessions..

To learn how you can improve the soccer skills of your players in record time and also make training more fun and enjoyable for the kids visit SoccerDrillsTips .com

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

Do you enjoy spending time in the outdoors with your kids? No matter what the season, you can prepare for outdoor recreation activities by having the finest products available. The Internet, camping and fishing might not seem like they together, when it comes to trying to locate the lowest cost outdoor sports equipment it’s the easiest place to start.

If camping with the family appeals to you, you’re going to want a good kids sleeping bag for the little ones, not something that is for arctic camping but will handle the cold none the less. Ideally some utensils if you’re planning on cooking and eating your meals at the campsite, and don’t forget about a quality weather proof tent. even though most tents won’t handle rainy season you can get one that will keep out the dew or a few evening rain showers.

You can find tents or bags in the store before, only to find them up to 30% less on the Internet when I got home. So remember take your time, make a list, and shop for the best deal when it comes to outdoor camping equipment. Be sure you purchase the correct equipment for your needs, it’ll be worth it when you have a nice warm sleep under the stars. Get your shelters and tents for great camping trips. And don’t forget things like your portable propane heater for your campsite needs. Just because it’s cold outside, it does not mean you have to cook indoors.

Fishing is another great outdoor activity for the whole family. Saltwater fishing is a great adventure, but if you are not ready for it, you will find out the hard way. And your saltwater fishing rods is one piece of equipment you don’t want to get wrong. The same as in other types of fishing, your saltwater fishing rod will be taking on the weight of a fish at awkward angles, not to mention the fight a fish will put up that doesn’t want to be caught. But your saltwater fishing rod will have to take even more pressure and weight. Most saltwater fish are not like your average river fish. You cannot compare the fight of a tuna and marlin with a river fish or rainbow trout. Saltwater fish tend to be bigger, wilder, and more aggressive. And if you don’t have the right saltwater fishing rods that are ready for action, you will be in for a surprise.

A man’s windproof jacket should not only protect him from the elements but it should provide him with comfort and plenty of room to move freely during work, exercise or sports. This means that you’ll need to be able to dress for running in cold weather as well. There is no snowboarding joy without safety, besides a quality board you will need excellent apparel too, which could be vital at a certain moment. Leather windproof jacket is cool Women’s clothing comes in a variety of styles and now meets the needs of every female bike rider. Windproof jacket also resists getting any sticky unwanted moisture in the sleeves and the main compartment.
Among the most popular I would mention the Istodis jackets, as well as the fleece snowboarding jackets from North Face or Millet that are available for both men and women in very attractive colors and design. Men are constantly outdoors in the weather and need quality windproof jackets to protect them from the wind. Clothing that seems fine when you are driving your car or walking down the street in the rain probably wont cut it at 70 miles an hour on your motorcycle. What are the tips that should be considered in buying a windproof jacket. It is usually made of lightweight coated nylon fabric that breaths easily.
The proper women’s running jacket should be lightweight, block wind, keep the runner dry, and keep the runner warm in cooler temperatures. For instance, the material it is made of may prove strong enough to pad your body in case of nasty crashes. First, a snowboarding jacket needs to be lightweight. One of the most important aspects to take into consideration when you buy a motorcycle jacket–or any other type of motorcycle gear, for that matter–is comfort. The best windproof jackets are those that have waterproof fabric and sealed seams for warmth and comfort. If you do wear a jacket it is probably something light to just take the slight chill off in the evening time or to keep the drizzle off.
Finding men’s windproof jackets for big and tall men is a bit of a challenge, but with this list of the five best windproof jackets, you cannot go wrong. Not all jackets are the same though, and it is important that you choose the correct jacket for what you want to do. Women who have an active lifestyle, and enjoy outdoor sports like jogging, volleyball, and sailing will be glad to know a windproof jacket is waiting for them. To start with there are so many types of windproof jackets out there in the snowboarding world.

Choosing a Pack Frame – A Beginner’s Guide

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

There are many brands and styles of external frame backpacks to choose from, but how do you know which one to buy. Choosing a pack frame is an individual decision. {People are going to be different, with their own likes and dislikes}. This one backpack is enough to stuff your things and there is no need for other secondary luggage. It’s generally accepted that a pack at 3 pounds or less is considered ultralight, and some may even stretch that to 3.5-4 pounds. Now that the school year is back in full swing, kids everywhere are leaving home with backpacks full of completed homework, textbooks, extra reading, personal hygiene items and a snack or two. When choosing a backpack for hiking you must first consider the following: How long you will be gone; The type of supplies you will be taking; The type of terrain you will be hiking in.
The necessity of carrying a large and varied number of items while camping or hiking makes a framed backpack very desirable. It is essential that you have a general idea of how much your backpack is going to need to hold. This is quite spacious and has a capacity of 3696 cubic inches. An internal frame is more comfortable for the beginner and has extra padding for comfort. Lowe-pro and Lowe Alpine have been responsible for the introduction of plastic buckles, compression straps, stabilizers and other items that are now standard in most modern backpacks.
The first thing you’ll want to do when you choose an internal frame backpack is to visit an outdoors/sporting goods store. When it comes to ultralight backpacks, there are basically two categories of packs: frameless & internal frame packs. Another advantage of a titanium frame is that it is not corrosive and is much stronger and durable than the aluminum frame. Any type of backpack would do its purpose in camping but the frames of these packs can make a difference – a titanium or aluminum made frame. At just it is a steal. I recently bought a lightweight backpack at Walmart. It weighs six ounces, and it is actually comfortable. I have a fancy front carrier, which was perfect when he was lighter, but he has recently gotten too heavy for it.

Urban Backpacks: The Best Gear

October 30, 2009

FREE PICKS : CALL ME FOR THE FREE PICK ON THIS GAME 212-542-4477

Urban exploring is fun. Being active in too many sports, not enough sports or physical activity, and poor posture, backpacks have gained ground as common factor? The top Solar Backpacks provide a convenient and an excellent source of power while on a hike, road trip, while traveling or other occasion when an alternate earth friendly source of power is needed. There are three types of camping backpacks that you can use~The latest Consumer Report continues to say, sixth graders are carrying around approximately 18.{4 pounds on their backs daily} There are many types of backpacks that you can use. They include external frame, internal frame, and rucksacks~Yet, it’s not just the sixth graders; you have the little second graders carrying 5.3 pounds and fourth graders carrying 4.6 pounds~On top of this, the study by Consumer Reports showed that sixth graders were carrying this heavy load up three flights of stairs – complaining of bruises and the heaviness of their books}. First off you will want to find a computer bag that will hold the size of your laptop. While browsing online, I found five of the most hip back to school backpacks for gothic teens. Both sections have zipper closure.

You don’t have to compromise your ecofriendly credentials when shopping for a backpack. While the superbreak style is pretty basic, it holds up to nearly anything, from a heavy course load to a laptop and all your class gear. Outdoor adventuring is one of the best ways to escape day-to-day stresses. The collections include Access, Enduro, Guide, and the Travel Collections.

One of the most popular styles is the Lowe Alpine Contour 60 + 10 Hyperlite Backpack. Low Alpine Backpacks were created by climber Greg Lowe in 1967. The recycle eco backpack’s green credentials include nylon that is made from recycled plastic bottles and biodegradable canvas trim. Its spacious interior, side pockets, and large zippered front pocket will easily accommodate your books, notebooks and other paraphernalia, while the recycling symbol on the outside pocket will let everyone know that you are doing your part to save the environment. Now that’s a quest. A lot of cachers will attempt these types of caches on their lunch breaks from work or for some other reason during the day.3 pounds and fourth graders carrying 4.6 pounds. But even as they are designed to even distribute the weight across a body, injuries happen because we do not use them the way they were designed.

If you’re a student or just someone that carries their things around in a backpack, almost everyone who carries a backpack is looking for a great backpack that won’t hurt their back. This gear will vary based on what you’re doing and where you’re at, but there are some things you should always have! In fact, there are plenty of ecofriendly choices that are stylish and functional. Your daughter will love this Roxy Girl backpack, both because it is stylish and fun and because of the roller option for those times when the paraphernalia she wants to tote is too heavy to carry on her back. Choosing the right backpack can be essential for having the right amount of space to carry all your school or business needs.

However, now with the advent of technology giving birth to many high-grade and even waterproof materials, leather backpacks have become quite redundant. Using items such as Solar Backpacks are just a few of the ways earth lovers can partake in giving back to Mother Earth. This large laptop backpack is perfect for carrying up to a 17″ laptop with all the accessories to go along with it. This backpack is big enough to carry books and other accessories that students may need to bring along with their laptop.

Sacramento Chiropractor

With any sort of sport, injuries are commonplace. You can often times avoid getting injured in a certain sport by finding out what injury is apt to occur, and then do whatever it takes to avoid it. The truth is, however, that sports injuries can’t always be avoided. Therefore, it’s advantageous to take good care of your body to make injury less likely, or less traumatic.   The most important thing that you can do is to be sure that you have an appropriate fitness level prior to starting to play a sport, such as golf. By cultivating a healthy lifestyle, keeping your joints mobile and your muscles limber, warming and stretching your body before activity, using proper form and good postures during activity, and giving yourself an appropriate amount of cool down and relaxation time, you may very well keep your body safe from injury.

It isn’t simply amateur golfers who experience injuries. It has been estimated that almost a third of pro golfers play injured concurrently. The good news is that all-round good health and fitness can reduce how many injuries you may acquire and could conceivably deter them completely.

Good body strength in the muscle areas most utilized during golf is vital. However, before you attempt to build muscle strength, it’s essential to make sure your spine is aligned and has good mobility. A successful golf swing relies on your spine’s facility to efficiently rotate effectually. Back injuries are the most prevalent kind of injuries suffered by golfers.
