Texas (11-0, 7-0) clinched the division with a 51-20 win over Kansas on Saturday. The Longhorns will face North Division champion Nebraska in the conference title game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on Dec. 5.  With victories over Texas A&M (6-5, 3-4) and Nebraska, the Longhorns will gain a spot in the BCS championship game. The teams ranked ahead of them – No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Alabama -meet for the SEC title Dec. 5.

This year’s game is very similar to the one back in ’05 when an undefeated Texas squad came into Kyle Field and defeated a 5-5 Texas A&M team, 40-29. The Aggies actually led by one point in the second half before the eventual national champions took over. Texas A&M won the next two meetings but Texas rebounded with a 49-9 thrashing last season in what was a transition year for the Aggies in Mike Sherman’s first season as head coach. In addition, that contest was the Longhorns last regular season effort to try to show the powers- that-be that they should be considered a National Championship contender since the game was played two days before the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State battle. This year, they are pretty much locked into the BCS title game as long as they win out. Look for Texas A&M to give them a tussle, especially since the Aggies are solid at home at 5-1 with the only loss coming by just five points to Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns are 11-0 SU and 5-5-1 ATS this year and 7-9-1 ATS in their last 17. They are also 3-1 to the over in their last four games. Texas A&M is 6-5 SU and 5-6 ATS in ’09, with five overs in its last seven games. The Aggies are 2-1 both SU and ATS the last three meetings.  I like the aggies with the points.

Green Bay (6-4) ranks first in the NFL in total defense, allowing an average of 295.8 yards, but that unit took two major hits when cornerback Al Harris and linebacker Aaron Kampman were hurt on separate plays in the second half of Sunday’s 30-24 win over San Francisco.

Green Bay is going to have to get accustomed to playing without Harris and Kampman, as coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that both will have season-ending knee surgery.

It would be a big blow for the Lions (2-8) if Stafford couldn’t play, considering the No. 1 pick of this year’s draft is coming off the best performance of his young career. Stafford set an NFL rookie passing record with 422 yards Sunday and became the youngest player to throw five touchdowns in a game.

Culpepper would likely make his third start of the season if Stafford can’t go. The 11-year veteran made two starts when Stafford was out earlier this year with a right knee injury, including a 26-0 loss at Green Bay on Oct. 18, Detroit’s eighth straight loss in the series. Culpepper was 6 of 14 for 48 yards with one interception in that game. Dynamic wide receiver Calvin Johnson also missed the first meeting with the Packers because of hand and knee injuries and could miss this contest for the same reasons.

Green Bay shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball against a Detroit team that ranks last in scoring defense (30.1) and 31st in total defense (401.9). In three career games against Detroit, Rodgers has passed for 994 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception.  Take Green Bay giving on the road.

Dallas (7-3) has failed to score through the first three quarters of its last two games, losing 17-7 at Green Bay on Nov. 15 and winning 7-6 over Washington on Sunday. It was determined that Romo was suffering from back problems in the aftermath of Sunday’s win. The Cowboys feel he is improving and will start Thursday. The Cowboys, who lead Philadelphia and New York by one game in the East, still have the league’s fifth-ranked offense. They’d like to see it get untracked.

Romo is 3-0 on Thanksgiving with 10 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 71.4 completion percentage.

Oakland (3-7) ended its three-game skid behind Bruce Gradkowski, who made his first start since Dec. 28 with Cleveland. Gradkowski finished an 80-yard drive by completing a tying 29-yard touchdown pass to rookie Louis Murphywith 33 seconds to go.

The Raiders have won three straight to take a 6-3 lead in the all-time series. They won 13-12 in their last visit to Dallas in 1998.  This game should  be closer than people think. Take Oakland with the points.

The Giants finally got into the win column last week after four straight losses. Now it’s up to the Broncos to turn things around after a four-game losing streak of their own. Denver’s defense, which allowed just 43 points in the first five games, has given up a whopping 140 in the last five. The Broncos are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Chargers in the battle for first place in the AFC West so they might be a little unprepared for an out-of- conference match up against New York. The Giants can not be happy with their performance vs. the Falcons, letting Atlanta send the game into overtime with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns. Still, they should take the momentum of the win into Denver and walk off with a double-digit victory.

New York (6-4) has endured similar highs and lows. The Giants were dominant during a 5-0 start before losing four straight going into their bye. They ended that skid with a 34-31 overtime win over Atlanta on Sunday. Coach Tom Coughlin understands what Denver is dealing with but doesn’t have any advice for rookie coach McDaniels and the Broncos this week.

Texas is already playing like a team expected to reach the Final Four. The Longhorns are 3-0, outscoring their opponents 247 to 143. Tonight’s contest against Pittsburgh will be their toughest test to date as the Panthers are 4-0, including a 13-point win over Wichita State last night. On the other hand, this is a very young team compared to last year’s experienced squad. Gone are DeJuan Blair, Levance Fields and Sam Young and three underclassmen are among the top four scorers. Texas is led by Damion James, who’s averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds. He’s also shooting 57% from the field. In fact, seven of the top eight scorers are hitting at a 50% or better clip. This one could be over early.

The Panthers (4-0) have moved on after losing Sam Young, DeJuan Blair and Levance Fields, their top three scorers on the team that went 31-5. While they’ve remained unbeaten, their victories include a three-point win over Wofford and an 11-point victory over Eastern Kentucky, both at home.

Pitt beat Wichita State 68-55 in the semifinal on Monday night, with redshirt freshman guard Travon Woodall leading the way. The 5-foot-11 Woodall had a career-high 19 points, adding six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sophomore Ashton Gibbs, who has emerged as the team’s leading scorer, added 18 points, just missing his third straight game with at least 20. He averaged just 4.3 points in a reserve role as a freshman.

The programs haven’t faced off since their only previous meeting, a 91-87 Pitt win on Nov. 29, 1991 in the Preseason NIT. Longtime Longhorns fans may remember Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, who hit a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat Texas 55-54 while playing for TCU in 1986.

With four losses in five games, Toronto (6-8) desperately needs a spark from somebody. The Raptors backups did the best they could without guards Marco Belinelli(groin) and Antoine Wright(ankle) on Sunday, but were outscored 37-22 in a 104-96 loss to Orlando.

Belinelli will be a game-time decision after getting hurt in Friday night’s 120-113 win over Miami. He was beginning to give the Raptors consistent scoring, averaging 15.3 points and going 11 for 22 from 3-point range in four games prior to facing the Heat. Wright, who has missed four of the last five games, is day to day. He started his last game after coming off the bench in his previous nine contests, but his injury limited him to five points and four assists in 17 minutes of a 130-112 loss to Denver last Tuesday.

The Pacers have lost three straight after winning their previous five, and appear to be lacking cohesion as they try to work injured players back into the lineup.

The Raptors won five of their last six home games against the Pacers even though Bosh was limited to 17.5 points per contest during that span. Toronto and Indiana each won twice at home in last season’s series.  I like toronto in this game.

Purdue (3-0) and Tennessee (4-0) entered this season expecting to compete for their respective conference titles and make runs at the NCAA tournament. After surviving close calls against a pair of unranked opponents, the seventh-ranked Boilermakers and No. 10 Volunteers will play for the tournament crown Monday night at the University of Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.

Tennessee looked like a shoo-in for the final after winning its first two games of the season by an average of 52.0 points. The Vols carried that momentum into first round of the Paradise Jam on Friday, dominating East Carolina 105-66. Things got a lot tougher in Sunday’s semifinals, however, as the Volunteers needed to rely on their defense before Tyler Smith converted a pair of free throws with 13.7 seconds left to beat DePaul 57-53.

Scotty Hopson is looking for a better shooting performance against Purdue after getting a season-low four points on 2-for-10 shooting, including an 0-for-4 effort from 3-point range. The sophomore guard had 25 points in each of the previous two contests and leads Tennessee with an average of 17.5 points – up from the 9.2 he averaged as a freshman. If Hopson struggles again Monday, the Volunteers have a trio of other solid scorers to rely upon, with Smith and swingman Cameron Tatum averaging 12.5 points and forward Wayne Chism getting 10.5.

This should be a great game, but Tennessee offense is too powerful for Purdue.

After falling to Southwest Division-leading Dallas 104-102 on Friday, Sacramento lost to Houston 113-106 on Saturday. The Kings had a chance against the Rockets, pulling within three on a 3-pointer by Beno Udrih with 1:19 remaining, but could not get any closer. Sacramento had six players in double figures, led by Spencer Hawes season-high 24 points and Udrih’s 18.

Making things even tougher for Sacramento, rookie Tyreke Evanssat out Saturday after spraining a finger on his right hand diving for a ball against the Mavericks. Evans had been carrying the Kings’ offense lately, averaging 24.0 points in the six games since Martin’s injury, and his status for this game is uncertain. He had a season-low three points in a 127-116 overtime victory over Memphis on Nov. 2 while Martin finished with 48 on 7 of 10 shooting from 3-point range.

Like Sacramento, the Grizzlies (4-9) are also coming off a tough loss. Memphis led Milwaukee by 12 points in the first half Friday and was tied at 90 with 3:21 to play but ended up losing 103-98, snapping a three-game winning streak. The loss to Sacramento earlier this month was part of a seven-game skid for the Grizzlies.  I like the home team to win.

While the Houston Texans emerge from their bye week firmly in the hunt for the first playoff berth in franchise history, their next opponent is already relishing its role as a spoiler. The Texans will be the latest team to attempt to slow down the NFL’s leading rusher, but Chris Johnson hopes to carry the Tennessee Titans to a fourth straight victory in Monday night’s AFC South matchup.An improved defense and a prolific passing game led by Matt Schaub have helped Houston (5-4) to a winning record through nine games for the first time in its eight seasons.

The Titans have looked like a totally different team since the insertion of starting QB Vince Young two weeks ago against Jacksonville. Not only did Young end Tennessee’s six-game losing streak, but he has won three straight, all by a TD or more. It’s not that Young has been picking apart his opponents, just 2 TD passes and 1 INT, it’s that he hasn’t done anything to hamper the team’s chances of winning. In Kerry Collins’ last three starts, he threw 4 INTs and just 1 TD, which isn’t going to win games for anyone. This week will be a tougher test for Young since it’s against a division rival and a team that might be in the Wild Card race late in the season. Houston had its three-game winning streak snapped by the Colts two weeks ago and now is coming off a bye week so the team will be well rested. QB Matt Schaub has been solid so far this season, 17 TDs and 9 INTs, but his 2 INTs might have cost them a chance to give Indianapolis its first loss of the season. Well that and the fact that Kris Brown missed a 42-yard field goal which would have sent them into OT. The Titans may have been playing better as of late, but they are no Indianapolis.

The Titans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against Houston. They are 6-2 to the OVER in their last eight games. Tennessee is 10-5 ATS in its last 15 games after two or more consecutive wins. The Texans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven versus the AFC. They are 6-1 to the OVER in their last seven games against Tennessee. The Charlottoe Bobcats are one of the few NBA teams allowing fewer than 90 points per game this season, but their offense has been so inept that the team has still lost seven straight. The Bobcats hope a return home will help them solve their scoring woes, as the Indiana Pacers visit Charlotte on Sunday trying to avoid a three-game slide of their own. The acquisition of Stephen Jackson from Golden State has done little to spark Charlotte offensively, even though Jackson has averaged 24.0 points in the last two games – his second and third with the team.

The Pacers (5-5) won five straight from Nov. 4-17, but they came up empty during a recent two-game homestand, losing 105-95 to Cleveland on Friday night. Indiana led by five points entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored 28-13, shooting 4 of 18 (22.2 percent) from the field in the final 12 minutes.

With a team-leading 24.8 points per game, Granger remains the focal point of Indiana’s offense. His 21 points helped the Pacers to an easy 108-83 victory in their most recent visit to Charlotte on March 21. This game will mark Indiana rookie Tyler Hansbrough first professional visit to North Carolina, where he became the all-time leading scorer for the Tar Heels and led them to the 2009 NCAA tournament title. Hansbrough has seen his playing time increase, averaging 8.7 points while getting consistent minutes in the last six games. It’s unclear if Charlotte will have starting center Tyson Chandler available after he missed Friday’s game due to back spasms.

They were led by 21 points from John Holland, the leading scorer who notched at least 20 for the third straight game off the bench.

Boston University was the unanimous preseason pick to win the America East Conference by the league’s coaches, but it has not beaten a ranked opponent since a 62-55 victory over then-No. 18 Navy on March 13, 1959.

Offensively, the Packers still need to do a better job of protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He was 25 of 36 for 189 yards and a touchdown, but was sacked four times by the Cowboys. Green Bay has a allowed a league-high 41 sacks.

After rushing for more than 1,000 yards each of the last three seasons, Gore has gained 551 this season and scored in three straight contests. Gore ran for 130 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in a San Francisco’s 30-19 loss to Green Bay in the teams’ most recent meeting on Dec. 10, 2006. Look for Green Bay to win their 2nd in a row at home.

The Colts made a huge comeback last week in their game against the Patriots to win, 35-34. Some may say that Patriots coach Bill Belichick made the wrong call going for it on fourth down when the Patriots were on their own 30. It doesn’t matter because they lost and second guessing isn’t productive. QB Peyton Manning threw 4 more TD passes to increase his total to 20, but also had 2 INTs, bringing his total to 7 for the season. The Colts now must travel to Baltimore to face a Ravens’ team that is in a free-fall.

After winning three straight games to start the season, Baltimore has won just twice in its last six. After posting 30 points against the Denver Broncos a couple of weeks ago, they scored just seven the following week against the Bengals. There is no real need to go into Monday night’s game because the Browns are just a bad all around team and they made it look like a scrimmage for this match up. Baltimore’s defense has been one of the main problems this year, holding opponents to under 14 points just three times. If they don’t find a way to stop and offense, or at least slow it down, it will be very hard for the Ravens to make the playoffs when Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are playing well.

The Ravens have held opponents to an average of 158.3 passing yards over their last three games, including a season-low 99 against the Browns. They’ve also given up only one touchdown pass in that span, winning twice following a three-game slide. To complement its defense, Baltimore could use some increased production from quarterback Joe Flacco, who struggled against Indianapolis as a rookie last season. He was 28 for 38 for 241 yards but threw three interceptions and no touchdowns. Flacco completed 13 of 18 passes for 155 yards Monday after going 18 for 32 for 195 yards in a 17-7 loss to the Bengals in Week 9. He has a 66.3 passer rating over those two games after averaging 264.1 yards with 12 TDs, five picks and a 95.6 rating in his first seven.

The Colts are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against Baltimore. They are 5-1 to the UNDER in their last six games against the Ravens. Indianapolis is 5-1 ATS in its last six games on the road. The Ravens are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. They are 6-1 to the UNDER in their last seven home games. Baltimore is 0-4 ATS in its last four games after playing on Monday Night Football. The Eagles seem to forget how to play football from week to week. One week they beat down Tampa Bay, 33-14 only to follow that with a 13-9 loss to Oakland. More recently, they smoked the Giants like a junior varsity team, 40-17 only to follow that up with a 20-16 loss to the Cowboys at home. This trend might be a problem for Chicago since the Eagles played bad last week losing 31-23 to the Chargers. The reason this was a bad loss for the Eagles is because they had three FGs inside the 25-yard line, which means they failed to score while inside the red zone. A big reason is Philadelphia’s reluctance to run the ball, just 13 carries versus 55 passes from QB Donovan McNabb. RB Brian Westbrook suffered his second concussion in four weeks, which probably puts him out the rest of the year, maybe even career-ending. However, the Eagles are very high rookie LeSean McCoy, who figures to be a solid back-up. Philly is fortunate to not lose any ground in the NFC East, thanks to Dallas’ loss vs. Green Bay. But with the Cowboys visiting Washington this week that might not be the case if the Eagles should lose again. This game might be good for McNabb since the Bears defense have given up 10 TD passes on 612 yards passing in their last three games, if you skip the Browns game. The Eagles defense should be just as excited since QB Jay Cutler has thrown 10 INTs in his last four games. This game couldn’t have come at a better time for Philadelphia because after this one two of its next three are against division opponents.

McNabb will try to help Philadelphia make a play on first place, but he won’t have Westbrook in the backfield. The two-time Pro Bowl running back was ruled out after suffering his second concussion in three weeks. Westbrook was on the sidelines for the second half of last Sunday’s game, and Philadelphia was held to a season-worst 29 yards rushing overall, averaging 2.2 yards per carry.

The Bears have won the last two meetings against the Eagles, including a 24-20 victory at home last season.  Follow the trend with the Eagles, take them on the road.

Denver (8-4) beat Chicago 90-89 on Nov. 10 after Chauncey Billups hit a go-ahead free throw with six-tenths of a second left. Brad Millers jumper at the buzzer was overturned following a lengthy replay review. While the Nuggets and Bulls have alternated decisions in the last 11 games, Denver has been much more consistent in recent matchups at home, winning three straight and nine of 10 going back to the 1999-2000 season. Six of the 10 games, though, have been decided by 10 or fewer points, including four separated by four or less.

The Bulls (6-5), meanwhile, are looking to bounce back after a 108-93 loss to the Lakers on Thursday. Chicago gave up 100 points for only the second time this season as it struggled to contain Los Angeles’ big men. The Bulls trailed by as many as 24 points and gave up a season-high 60 in the paint. Derrick Rose finished with 20 points, but was held to only four in the first half. He finished 9 of 20 from the field as he continues to struggle early in his second season. The reigning rookie of the year, who was limited in the preseason because of a strained tendon behind his right ankle, averaged 12.7 points on 39.5 percent shooting in his previous three games.  I like Denver to bounce back from last nights lost and win this game.

Kentucky won both meetings with Rider, the most recent a 96-52 victory in the first round of the 1993 NCAA tournament.  Look for the Wildcats to fix some of their problems, and win this game big.

No. 9 Ohio State (9-2, 6-1) has already assured itself of its first spot in the Rose Bowl in 13 years after clinching at least a share of the Big Ten title and the conference’s Bowl Championship Series automatic berth with Saturday’s 27-24 overtime victory over 15th-ranked Iowa.

The Wolverines (5-6, 1-6) have lost four in a row and six of the last seven and remain tied for last in the Big Ten after Saturday’s 45-24 beating at the hands of Wisconsin.

The Buckeyes have beaten two top-15 teams in as many weeks, knocking off then-No. 11 Penn State 24-7 in Happy Valley two weeks ago. Those two wins gave them the Rose Bowl bid—and a Jan. 1 date against the Pac-10 winner. No. 11 Oregon (8-2, 6-1) currently leads that race, with Stanford (7-3, 6-2), Oregon State (7-3, 5-2) and Arizona (6-3, 4-2) hot on the webbed feet of the Ducks.

Michigan needs a win to salvage its season, but that’s sort of like putting lipstick on a pig. A victory would give the Wolverines, who are coming off a 3-9 season a year ago in Rich Rodriguez’s debut in Ann Arbor, the minimum requirement for playing in a bowl game—a non-losing record. The Wolverines could also avoid the Big Ten cellar, hardly a blood-boiling bit of motivation, in addition to knocking their neighbors to the south down a peg or two.

But this year, the Buckeyes have accomplished so much already—and the Wolverines have struggled so much—it’s not surprising that the focus might not be there.  Take Ohio St on the road.
