Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
Monday November 1st, 2010 8:30 PM EST
Line: Indianapolis -6
Overview:
The Indianapolis Colts will seek revenge this Monday against the Houston Texans. The Texans beat the Colts in their home opener, so Peyton Manning and the Colts are looking to redeem themselves and take hold of the division. Both teams are 4-2 and both are battling for the top of the AFC South.
Keys to the Game:
- Lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice. There is no way Peyton Manning is going to allow the Texans to get the best of him twice in a season. He threw for three touchdowns and 433 yards the last time they squared off. The Texans have the worst pass defense in the entire NFL, allowing 306.2 yards. Manning is a film freak and will undoubtedly take advantage of every hole in the Texans secondary. The Texans lost Dunta Robinson and didn’t bring in a viable backup. They have relied heavily on their pass rush in the past, but Brian Cushing hasn’t had a sack since he has returned. Their best pass rusher, Mario Williams, has five sacks. If the Texans blitz, they will likely be exposed by Manning. They are in a lose lose situation, as they don’t have the talent to play Manning honest and they don’t have the pass rushers that can get to the quarterback without blitzing.
- As there is a mismatch with the Colts passing game and the Texans pass defense, there is a mismatch between Arian Foster and the Colts run defense. Foster has seen a decline in his numbers, which was not unexpected given his phenomenal performance in the first portion of the season. The Texans need to get Foster the ball often, due to the 137.3 yards per game the Colts allow on the ground. The Texans haven’t lost a single game where Foster has found the end zone. If Foster gets going, which in all likelihood he will, the Texans are going to put up big time numbers. In teams Foster has struggled against, they have had a stout defensive line. Foster is most dangerous after he gets to the second level, so if the Colts can manage to make contact near the line of scrimmage, they have a better chance at containing Foster.
- Reggie Wayne has to make up for Dallas Clark being out. Wayne has the third most yards in the NFL at this point, but he is going to have to play spectacular football to make up for Clark’s absence. Clark has been a crucial outlet for Manning and will be impossible to replace. Manning does a nice job at finding the open receiver and bringing the most out of all of his weapons. Clark’s injury is going to be felt in the offense most on third down. He is a sure handed outlet who is crucial to moving the chains. Reggie Wayne will need to step up his game to stretch the field. There is no corner that can compete with Wayne on the Texans, so you can expect Wayne to have a big night.
- The Colts know that the weakness in their defense lies in their run stopping ability, so they could play with eight in the box fairly regularly. With Bob Sanders out as usual, the Colts lack a real presence at safety. Antoine Bethea is solid, but he isn’t the game changer Sanders is. If the Colts over compensate against the run, the Texans are going to put on an air show. Andre Johnson is an absolute monster. It wouldn’t shock me if he went for 150 yards. In their last matchup, the Colts shut down Johnson, limiting him to three catches for 33 yards. The reason they didn’t utilize Johnson was because they didn’t need his services. Arian Foster ran for 231 yards in that game, so forcing the ball in the air would have been unnecessary. Foster won’t go for over 200 yards again, so Johnson has an opportunity to step up in this one.
- Since their franchise began, the Texans have been owned by the Colts. They are 2-15 all time against Manning and the Colts. One of those wins came this season and the Texans are trying to stand up to the bully. It is impressive that they are still tied for first place in the division at this point in the year. This is a crucial game, because if they don’t win their division, they could be watching the playoffs at home on T.V. The Jets, Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Colts, and Texans cannot all make the playoffs. While I think five of those teams will go, nobody wants to be that sixth team that is left out. Don’t forget, the AFC West still accounts for one playoff spot. You will see both teams playing like this is a playoff game.
- Demeco Ryans is out, which has the Texans defense in disarray. Mario Williams is without a doubt the most talented member of the defense, but the heart and soul of the Texans defense is tackling machine Demeco Ryans. They have Cushing playing out of position in order to fill his shoes, which takes away from the outside pass rush. The Texans are softer in the middle of the field. Joseph Addai is out, which makes the Colts less likely to attack the Texans in the middle. The Colts are going to be most effective on the ground when they seemingly have Donald Brown in the backfield for pass protection and he goes for a half back draw. Manning is quite possibly the best quarterback of all time at calling an audible at the line of scrimmage to take advantage of a defense. Brown is going to get carries if Manning sees something, which could be often given Houston’s injury problem.
Wrap Up:
While I like Houston, I don’t see them beating the Colts twice. Arian Foster isn’t going to surprise anyone this time around. If the Colts can contain him to under 100 yards on the ground, the Texans are going to be held to far less than the 34 they put up in week one. Houston made a statement in week one, but I don’t think beating the Colts will be a regular occurrence for them. I like the Colts by a touchdown on Monday Night.

Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers
Sunday October 31st, 2010 8:30 PM EST
Line: Los Angeles -9 1/2
Overview:
Both teams in this matchup have 2-0 records and have looked incredible to start the season. While this is not news in LA, it is shocking to Bay Area fans. Without coach Don Nelson weighing down the Warriors anymore, they look like a different basketball team. This will be a great test for them, as they take on the defending world champion Lakers.
Keys to the Game:
- Stephen Curry is out. This is a huge blow to the Warriors, as Curry is an assist machine. While the Warriors are exciting to watch, their defense is terrible. The Warriors need to score 120 points to remain competitive in some games, including this one. They simply can’t hit that mark without Curry’s presence. The Warriors are versatile with their offense, so it is likely you will see Monta Ellis slip into the point guard position. While Ellis was at shooting guard, he is comfortable playing point, but it might take away from his ability to score.
- Kobe Bryant gives a different Wow factor than the Miami heat do. When you watch the Heat, it is hard to really appreciate the individual effort of any one player. The big three are great, but the aura of each of them carrying their respective teams to victory has been completely washed away. It is safe to say that the Lakers are a deep basketball team, but fans still come out to see Kobe Bryant. Bryant has the ability to put up 45 points on a team like the Warriors. He is also regarded as one of the best defenders in the league. Bryant will take advantage of his skill set to drop incredible numbers on the Warriors.
- The Lakers are built to win a Championship, not necessarily a home game in their third outing of the season. Phil Jackson isn’t gunning for the all-time win record, he is looking for his 12th NBA ring as a coach and a shot at a threepeat. He has built his team to win any seven game series against any team in the league. The Lakers are still the team to beat in the NBA, but Jackson isn’t going to leave players on the floor for too long or expel too much energy in one outing to come away with a regular season win. The Zen Master has a plan, which is geared toward the end of the season.
Wrap Up:
While I like the Warriors on offense, I like the Lakers everywhere. The Warriors are outmatched in this one and without Stepehn Curry, the Warriors are going to struggle to put up the points necessary to hang withing ten of the Lakers for most of the game.

Kansas Jayhawks (2-5) v. Iowa State Cyclones (4-4)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 2:00PM EST
Line: Iowa State -14
Iowa State brings in their great running attack after coming off a huge win over Texas last week, 28-21.The Cyclones carry a solid offensive force this season, but can’t seem to get it together on defense. The same can be said for Kansas, a team with a very poor defense but a solid running game behind eir running backs, Sims and Beshears.
Keys to the Game:
- Iowa State’s running game is ranked 63rd in the nation. The team averages 147.9 rushing yards per game. The team benefits from their scrambling quarterback in Justin Arnaud and their reliable back in Alexander Robinson. The senior has rushed for 608 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
- The Jayhawks possess one of the worst defenses in the nation. The team is giving up an average of 33.9 points in each of their games. The team has lost their last four games, and their 10-45 beating by Texas A&M was a horrible showing at home.
- The Cyclones’ crucial win over Texas put the team back at .500 while shocking the college football world. The team was able to make Texas’ quarterback, Garrett Gilbert give up for turnovers. With the win, Iowa State proved that their running game can really do some damage.
Free College Football Pick
The Cyclones and the Jayhawks both pair up pretty evenly in this one. Iowa State has the momentum and coming off a monumental win for the school. The Cyclones also have a more stable offense in this matchup, they’ll be able to get their fifth win of the season.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-3) v. Texas A&M Aggies (4-3)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 3:30PM EST
Line: Texas A&M -7
The Texas Tech Red Raiders were able to find critical success within their passing game in last week’s win over Colorado. The team was able to storm a late come back behind an outstanding clutch effort and a great kick from their kicker, Matt Williams to give them the lead with little time left. Texas A&M were also to pick up their fourth win of the season last week, dominating Kansas 45-10.
Keys to the Game:
- Alexander Torres had six receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown in Texas Tech’s game last week. The receiver has only caught three touchdowns all season, but has 27 receptions for 326 yards.
- Ryan Tennehill took the snaps for Texas A&M last week. The junior went 12/16 for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Tennehill looked poised in the pocket and was able to sling the ball to his receivers all throughout the game last week.
- Behind Taylor Potts, Texas Tech is seventh in the nation when it comes to passing. The Red Raiders are averaging 311.1 passing yards this season. The team is also averaging 32.6 points per game this season.
Free College Football Pick
Texas A&M will need to prepare well for Tech’s dangerous passing game. A few mistakes in the secondary from A&M and this one could get ugly. The Aggies looked to be in great form in last week’s win but it’s debatable whether they can cover this spread.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane (4-3) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-4)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 2:30PM EST
Line: Notre Dame -8
After riding a nice three-game winning streak, the Fighting Irish suffered their fourth loss of the season last week when facing Navy. The team wasn’t able to stop the Navy rushing game, giving up a total of 367 yards on the ground. Tulsa is coming off a win, their offense has been great all season but their defense fails to stop opponents.
Keys to the Game:
- Tulsa relies heavily on their junior quarterback, G.J. Kinne. The junior has thrown for 1,855 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. Last week Kinne threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s win over Tulane.
- The Fighting Irish were without one of their best weapons Michael Floyd in last week’s loss. Look for the team to look continually at their elusive junior. So far Floyd has caught 44 balls for 624 yards and six touchdowns.
- Tulsa’s Charles Clay does an efficient every weekend for the Golden Hurricane. He leads the team in the receiving game, catching six touchdowns this season. Damaris Johnson has caught 27 balls this season for 323 yards. Johnson has also been able to run in four touchdowns on the ground.
Free College Football Pick
Tulsa should be able to create some noise behind their electric offense that’s ranked 13th in the nation in scoring. The team averages 38.4 points per game, but they do also give up 28.9 points per game. Notre Dame will come out firing in an emotional game for them, luckily for the Fighting Irish, Tulsa hasn’t been able to dominate on defense all season.

Clemson Tigers (4-3) v. Boston College Eagles (2-5)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 12:00PM EST
Line: Clemson -7
The Clemson Tigers will travel down to Boston College this weekend, after successfully beating down Georgia Tech, 13-27. Clemson benefitted from their running back, Andre Ellington, who broke out for his career-high in running yards with 166 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles haven’t been able to get it together since the earlier parts of their season. They extended their losing streak to five games after losing to Maryland last week.
Keys to the Game:
- It’s tough to see the Boston College Eagles fall off the map so harshly. Their 2-0 start felt like it was forever ago, as they continue to stack of losses. Their tense 24-21 loss at home had to of been one of the worst moments of their season.
- Clemson will need to continue relying on their sensation back in Ellington. The sophomore has continued to light up the scoreboard for the Tigers this season. Expect him to continue seeing the ball as the team travels to Boston College.
- Maryland’s quarterback, Danny O’Brien shredded Boston College’s secondary last week. The Eagles did do a solid job slowing down their opponent’s running game, but the defense can’t continue to let their opponents expose the secondary each week.
Free College Football Pick
This matchup should be a tight one; both teams will need to gut a tough victory here. Boston College isn’t down and out quite yet, but they will face a tough offense in Clemson. The Tigers are liable to let this one slip if they don’t continue building off their strong running game.

Northwestern Wildcats (5-2) v. Indiana Hoosiers (4-3)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 12:00PM EST
Line: Northwestern -3.5
The Wildcats are coming off a close loss to a surging Michigan State team last week. Northwestern lost 35-27, but they showed great potential in being able to show up against the big teams, with 385 total yards on offense. The Hoosiers are trying to recover from a beating put on them by Illinois last weekend, the team loss 13-43.
Keys to the Game:
- Dan Persa had an interesting game for the Wildcats last week. The senior made some smart throws throughout the game, but had no touchdowns and an interception. Persa’s assistance wasn’t minimal though, as he was able to run the ball 22 times for 46 yards and three touchdowns.
- Indiana’s quarterback, Ben Chappell was pressured all game in the team’s loss to Illinois. Two of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns as he struggled to have any time in the pocket throughout the game. Chappell has thrown for 2,137 yards and 17 touchdowns this season.
- The Hoosiers lack a powerful force within their running game this season. Trea Burgess had most of the carries for the team last week, rushing for 42 yards off 15 carries. They will continue to rely on their passing game behind Chappell.
Free College Football Pick
Dan Persa and his solid offensive crew should be able to execute against the Hoosiers’ struggling defense as of late. The Wildcats have already proved they can match-up well against superior competition this season, while still holding their winning record. Northwester will be able to win this one by more than a touchdown.

East Carolina Pirates (5-2) vs. Central Florida Knights (5-2)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 3:30PM EST
Line: Central Florida -7.5
Central Florida (UCF) is coming off a 14-41 win over Rice last weekend. Godfrey had a solid passing game for the Knights, while their running back Ronnie Weaver broke out with a great performance. East Carolina remains 4-0 in their conference, they’re on a three-game winning streak and were able to beat down Marshall last weekend, 37-10.
Keys to the Game:
- East Carolina loves to build off their sensation passing game. The team is tenth in the nation, averaging 303.3 passing yards per game this season. This team can also put up points behind the passing, averaging 36.9 points per game this season also.
- Central Florida’s running back, Ronnie Weaver had 15 carries for 53 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s win last week. Weaver has helped the Knights achieve a powerful running game, this season he has 458 yards and 8 touchdowns.
- The Knights have a reliable running game, averaging 190.6 yards on the ground this season. The team primarily focuses on winning games through the run, as they’re averaging 179.1 passing yards a game this season.
Free College Football Pick
East Carolina possesses a great passing game but have problems on defense, allowing opponents to average 35.3 points this season. UCF should be able to punch the ball inside before mixing in the pass, they will just need to be cautious of any mistakes on defense.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-5) v. Maryland Terrapins (5-2)
Saturday, October 30th, 2010 3:30PM EST
Line: Maryland -5.5
Wake Forest continues to lose games this year, the team can’t seem to snap the losing streak after suffering another loss to Virginia Tech last week. The Demon Deacons’ defense allowed a total of 605 yards in their loss. Maryland escaped with a 24-41 win over Boston College last weekend. The team was able to bounce back from a loss to Clemson the week before by beating their opponents at home last weekend.
Keys to the Game:
- Tanner Price, the Deacon’s quarterback, had another weak game for the team. The freshman went 3/16 for 92 yards and a touchdown. While he didn’t commit any turnovers, he failed to find any big plays to his receivers last weekend.
- The Terps have been solid all season on offense. They are averaging 184.6 passing yards and 121.7 rushing yards this season. Their defense has also been impressive, allowing only 20.6 points per game this season.
- Wake Forest’s only shining light of success last week was their running back, Josh Harris. The Deacon’s running back ran for 241 yards and two touchdowns last week. The freshman has 430 rushing yards and four touchdowns this season.
Free College Football Pick
Expect Maryland’s defensive unit to be able to get a good hold of Wake Forest’s struggling offense. The Terps will need their quarterback, Danny O’Brien to continue the strong performance he had last week when he threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns.

Saturday, October 30th, 2010 12:21PM EST
Line: South Carolina -17.5
South Carolina come in as solid favorites after getting their fifth victory over Vanderbilt last week. They simply dominated Vandy on all sides of the football, winning 21-7. Tennessee is currently on a three-game losing streak, last week they were picked apart by Alabama, losing 41-10.
Keys to the Game:
- The Volunteers were out-played when losing to Alabama last week. Tennessee had two turnovers in the loss, their quarterback, Matt Simms struggled to find any rhythm while only throwing for 117 yards.
- Gamecocks’ quarterback, Stephen Garcia, continues to find success. In his win against Vandy, Garcia went 31-39 for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Look for the Gamecocks to continue relying on their junior play-caller for this game.
- South Carolina’s Brian Maddox was given most of the carries for the first time last weekend. Maddox rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown off his 24 carries in the game. Expect the Gamecocks to utilize the depth they have in the running game.
Free College Football Pick
The Gamecocks are averaging 260.7 passing yards behind their impactful quarterback. The team did lose a close one to Kentucky a few weeks ago, but they should be able to hold off this frustrated Tennessee group. The Volunteers will put up a strong effort to avoid falling to 2-6.

Line: Miami (FL) -15
Miami steam-rolled over North Carolina last weekend, the Hurricanes were able to force three turnovers and run for a total of 225 yards in the win. Marc Verica was able to bounce back after throwing three interceptions in his previous game, by passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns in Virginia’s victory last week over Eastern Michigan.
Keys to the Game:
- Damien Berry found plenty of open grass in his last game, running for 109 yards and a touchdown last week. The team was able to find success in the air too, as Jacory Harris threw for 217 yards, one interception and three touchdowns.
- Keith Payne is one of Virginia’s focal points when it comes to scoring. So far the senior running back has run for 471 yards and ten touchdowns this season. He was also able to log in two more touchdowns in the team’s win last week.
- The Hurricanes have been averaging 230.1 passing yards this season, while also averaging 169.1 rushing yards in each game. Their offense should be able to damage Virginia’s sub-par defensive unit. The Cavaliers have been allowing an average of 24.1 points this season.

Miami will be looking for their third straight win when heading into Virginia. Their solid defense will frustrate Virginia’s senior quarterback Marc Verica, who’s made some questionable decisions when under pressure this season.

Washington State Cougars at Arizona State Sun Devils
Saturday October 30th, 2010 7:00 PM EST
Line: Arizona St. -21
Overview:
Washington St. has been destroyed by the Pac-10. They have won one game all season long, but will look to turn it around against the 3-4 Arizona State Sun Devils, who are 1-3 against Pac-10 opponents.
Keys to the Game:
- ASU has to continue to be relentless on defense. Despite giving up huge points at times, Arizona St. allows their presence to be felt throughout the entire game. They have a defense led by sophomore Vontaze Burfict that flies to the ball carrier. Their linebackers are effective against the run and in coverage. They need to unleash their linebackers on sitting duck Jeff Tuel.
- While Washington St. is terrible, Tuel has played considerably well. He has thrown for fourteen touchdowns and nine picks this season, doing so with a porous offensive line and no running game to be found. While Washington St. has struggled mightily on offense, if they are going to get something going, it is going to be through the air. Arizona St. is vulnerable to big plays because they play so aggressively, but it also means Tuel will need to have a quick trigger.
- Steven Threet is a turnover machine. He looks the part at times, but one out of every six or so of his throws has Sun Devils fans scratching their heads. Is he the answer? He has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns three times this season and all have resulted in losses. When Threet limits turnovers, the Sun Devils can compete against anyone in the nation. Despite Threets best efforts to throw ASU out of the game against Oregon, the Sun Devils remained competitive, even as they approached the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Sun Devils can only go as far as a football team as Threet will take them.
Wrap Up:
This spread is way to big. While Washington St. has lost twice by a margin of 21 or more, the failed to do so against even Oregon. The Sun Devils have won by 21 against Portland St. and NAU, but Washington St. deserves more credit than Vegas is giving them. Arizona State is probably going to destroy Washington St., but the Cougars will still be able to put up at least 17 points and keep it within two scores.

#2 Oregon Ducks at USC Trojans
Saturday October 30th, 2010 8:00 PM EST
Line: Oregon -7
Overview:
The Oregon Ducks have been the most explosive team in the country this year. They have an undefeated 7-0 record and will seek to protect their National Championship hopes alive as they take on the 5-2 USC Trojans. USC has bullied the rest of the Pac-10 for the last decade. Under Lane Kiffen, the Trojans are in transition, but still prove to be a force to be reckoned with. The Trojans are coming off a dominant performance against Cal. No team has been able to stay within eleven points of Oregon all season long. Will USC be the first?
Keys to the Game:
- Lamichael James already is approaching 1000 yards this season and if USC wants any shot at winning they are going to have to contain him. Last week, USC geared up against Shane Vereen and bottled him up completely. The USC defense is packed with talent, but they need to be better sure tacklers in the open field. Two missed tackles could spell disaster when facing someone like James in the open field. James has only been held under 100 yards once this season. When he faced Arizona State, he struggled on the ground, producing a 3.4 yard per carry average. ASU has a swarming defense with relentless pursuit to the ball carrier. USC will need to replicate that same gang tackling mentality in order to stop James.
- Matt Barkley will be the king of the PAC 10 next year, if he keeps up the level of play he is experiencing. Jake Locker and Andrew Luck may run the show as of right now, but nobody looks better than Barkley. Barkley has already thrown for twenty touchdowns, producing five in a game twice already this season. Barkley is poised and lethally accurate. As a sophomore, he has already become the face of the USC football program. His leadership is unquestionable and next year he will be in the Heisman discussion. Like Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, and Carson Palmer before him, Barkley will easily be a top fifteen pick when he decides to enter the draft.
- Freshman Robert Woods has a connection with Barkley. They execute on back shoulder throws reminiscent of Texas Tech when Michael Crabtree was there. Woods is USC’s leading receiver and has made some spectacular catches. He will be a staple in the USC offense for the remainder of Barkley’s tenure as the Trojans starting quarterback. Woods is a sure handed 6-1 wide receiver with blazing speed. He has already scored six touchdowns this year and you can expect him to break loose in the one.
- The Ducks are deadly on defense. Safety John Boyett is a ferocious playmaker in the middle of the field. While other Oregon Ducks may obtain the credit for being the 12th ranked deense in the country, Boyett plays sideline to sideline and terrifies receivers who come across the middle. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against Robert Woods. Oregon as a unit is stingy. They will undoubtedly send blitzes at Barkley to try to off set his rhythm, as Washington St. did. Barkley isn’t the type to get rattled, but nobody can be collected while they are on the ground.
Wrap Up:
I like Oregon to win the game, but they aren’t going to win by seven. USC is playing with a chip on their shoulder. The Trojans are one of the best teams they have faced all year. Hopefully for USC, Barkley doesn’t experience the same struggles as Luck did against Oregon.

Line: Oregon State -3
Oregon State had an extra week to get over their 2 OT loss at Washington 35-34. That loss snapped a two game winning streak and now the Beavers find themselves at .500. Cal got stomped two weeks ago at USC 48-14 then whooped on Arizona State at home last weekend 50-17.
Stats to consider:
Cal Bears:
- Cal is 4-3 with a 2-2 Pac-10 record.
- Cal is 0-3 on the road this season with only one loss coming by less than 21 points.
- Points against per game: 20.6 (36th)
- Points for per game: 34.7 (23rd)
- Passing yards a game: 199 (76th)
- Rushing yards a game: 178.3 (36th
Oregon State Beavers:
- The Beavers are 3-3 with a 2-1 Pac-10 record.
- They are 2-1 at home this season. Their first loss came vs TCU week 1 30-21.
- Points against per game: 30.8 (93rd)
- Points for per game: 29 (55th)
- Passing yards a game: 223.7 (57th)
- Rushing yards a game: 120.7 (92nd)
What to watch for:
- Cal has not looked good away from home as their 0-3 record shows.
- Cal Senior RB Shane Vereen has 721 yards and 10 TDs. He also has 172 receiving yards with another 3 TDs.
- The Beavers will need a big game out of Junior RB Jacquizz Rodgers. Rodgers has 621 yards and 10 TDs. He also has 128 receiving yards and 2 TDs.
As far as football picks go, this is a tough one. The way Cal has played on the road is an easy way for me to sort thru this one. This game will come down to who gets a better game out of their RBs. Both Vereen for Cal and Rodgers for Oregon State are extremely talented. They will be the focus for the game and Cal will lose based on its’ previous road success, or lack there of.

Georgia Bulldogs at Florida Gators
Saturday October 30, 2010 3:30 PM EST
Line: Georgia -2
First off, this game will be played at a mutual site in Jacksonville Florida. Georgia has won their last three games after losing the previous four. Florida has lost their last three games after winning their first four. They had an extra week to prepare for this one.
Stats to consider:
Georgia Bulldogs:
- Georgia is 4-4 with a 3-3 SEC record.
- Points against per game: 19.1 (30th)
- Points for per game: 31.5 (39th)
- Passing yards a game: 228.4 (55th)
- Rushing yards a game: 153.8 (59th)
Florida Gators:
- Florida is 4-3 with a 2-3 SEC record.
- Points against per game: 18.7 (26th)
- Points for per game: 27.6 (62nd)
- Passing yards a game: 186.9 (82nd)
- Rushing yards a game: 142.1 (75th)
What to watch for:
- Florida has been poor on offense this season and should come out and play at a high level considering the fact they had an extra week to prepare.
- Georgia has gotten good play out of Freshman QB Aaron Murray who has 1,766 yards 12 TDs and only 3 Ints.
- Georgia WR A.J. Green snapped a three game TD streak last week as he was held to 6 catches for 34 yards.
- Florida RB Jeffery Demps comes in with a hurt foot and that could hurt a Florida team even more that has struggled on offense. Demps leads the rushing attack with 450 yards and 2 TDs.
Both these football teams came in with high expectations. Those expectations are sinking quickly and this is a must win for both football programs. This as a football pick, is a tough one. When considering everything, I’ll take the team that has played better as of lately. Georgia brings in a three game winning streak while Florida brings in a three game losing streak. Florida could come out of the bye playing at a high level, but I’ll take Georgia as maybe they might have found the formula for victory.

Duke Blue Devils at Navy Midshipmen
Saturday October 30, 2010 3:30 PM EST
Line: Navy -13.5
Good news and bad news for Duke. The good news: they are the #1 ranked basketball program coming into the season. The bad news: they are 1-6 and haven’t won a game since week 1. Navy brings in a 3 game winning streak and beat Notre Dame last week 35-17.
Stats to consider:
Duke Blue Devils:
- Duke is 1-6 with an 0-4 ACC record.
- They are 0-3 on the road with their smallest margin of loss coming by 5 points.
- Points against per game: 38.7 (114th)
- Points for per game: 22.7 (88th)
- Passing yards a game: 254.1 (36th)
- Rushing yards a game: 117.6 (95th)
Navy Midshipmen:
- Navy is 5-2 this season.
- They are 3-1 at home this season.
- Points against per game: 18 (19th)
- Points for per game: 23 (84th)
- Passing yards a game: 104 (118th)
- Rushing yards a game: 274.4 (9th)
What to watch for:
- Look for this Duke offense to struggle. They haven’t scored more than 21 points since week 2.
- Navy has a two game winning streak vs two very good teams, Southern Methodist and Notre Dame.
- Navy QB Ricky Dobbs has 728 yards 5 TDs and 4 Ints this season thru the air. He also has 469 yards and 8 TDs on the ground.
This sports pick is an easier one. Duke has shown little this season, thus resulting in a six game losing streak. Navy has beaten some pretty good teams this season and are looking to keep their three game winning streak going.

#5 Michigan State Spartans at #18 Iowa Hawkeyes
Saturday October 30, 2010 3:30 PM EST
Line: Iowa -6.5
Iowa got its’ second loss of the season against Wisconsin last weekend 31-30. They are now 1-2 against ranked teams this season. Michigan State beat Wisconsin earlier this season 34-24 and are 2-0 vs ranked opponents. This Spartans team has played at a high level all year long.
Stats to consider:
Michigan State Spartans:
- The Spartans are 8-0 with a 4-0 Big Ten record.
- They are 2-0 on the road this season.
- Points against per game: 17.9 (18th)
- Points for per game: 34.5 (26th)
- Passing yards a game: 255.3 (34th)
- Rushing yards a game: 193.5 (28th)
Iowa Hawkeyes:
- The Hawkeyes are 5-2 with a 2-1 Big Ten record.
- They are 4-1 at home and their first home loss was last week vs Wisconsin 31-30
- Points against per game: 15.7 (11th)
- Points for per game: 33.7 (30th)
- Passing yards a game: 253.9 (38th)
- Rushing yards a game: 159.1 (53rd)
What to watch for:
- This game is poised to be one of the best of the week, if not the best. Both teams are extremely talented, but Iowa has 2 more loses than the Spartans in the loss column.
- Spartans RBs Edwin Baker and Le’Veon Bell have combined for over 1,200 yards with 15 TDs.
- Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins has 1,948 yards 14 TDs and only 4 Ints. Cousins last week threw for 331 yards and 3 TDs. He has not thrown an Int the last 3 weeks.
- Iowa RB Adam Robinson has 737 yards and 9 TDs this season. He has 2 straight 100 yard games coming into this one.
- Senior Haweye QB Ricky Stanzi has 1,732 yards 16 TDs and only 2 Ints. He has two straight games of over 248 yards and 3 TDs with no Ints in them.
Both teams have been playing at a high level coming into this one. This is one of the tougher sports picks of the week without a doubt. Iowa just lost last week to a team that Michigan State beat earlier this season. Turnovers will determine this one as neither QB has thrown an Int the last two weeks.

#6 Missouri Tigers at #14 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Saturday October 30, 2010 3:30 PM EST
Line: Nebraska -7.5
Missouri is coming off their biggest victory of the year in which they defeated the #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooner 36-27 at home. This was their first game vs a ranked opponent all year. Nebraska has also only played one ranked opponent and that was at Oklahoma State 51-41 last week.
Stats to consider:
Missouri Tigers:
- The Tigers are 7-0 with a 3-0 Big 12 record.
- They are 1-0 on the road this season.
- Points against per game: 13.1 (4th)
- Points for per game: 34.7 (23rd)
- Passing yards a game: 286.4 (16th)
- Rushing yards a game: 138.4 (80th)
Nebraska Cornhuskers:
- Nebraska is 6-1 this season with a 2-1 Big 12 record.
- They are 3-1 at home this season.
- Points against per game: 17.9 (17th)
- Points for per game: 38.9 (10th)
- Passing yards a game: 169.1 (100th)
- Rushing yards a game: 290 (5th)
What to watch for:
- Missouri is coming off their biggest win of the season and now will need to reload and get ready for a tough road trip at Nebraska.
- Texas was the only team to defeat Nebraska a couple of weeks back, they may have shown the formula as to how to beat Nebraska.
- Missouri has gotten a huge season out of Junior QB Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert has 1,899 yards 11 TDs and only 3 Ints.
- Heisman hopeful Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez looks to continue his multi dimensional ways this week. Martinez has 870 yards with 12 TDs rushing. Martinez also has 1,046 yards 8 TDs and 3 Ints.
This is the toughest football pick of the week. Taylor Martinez is a Freshman, but has played like a Senior all year long. Texas might have exposed a winning formula against this Nebraska team. Missouri has a very good defense. It will not be as easy for Nebraska to score as it was last week at Oklahoma State.

Idaho Vandals at Hawaii Warriors
Saturday October 30, 2010 11:30 PM EST
Line: Hawaii -15
When I think Hawaii, I think vacation. Idaho can’t think the same thing because Hawaii plays a ton better at home. Not only that, but Idaho does not play well on the road with a record of 1-3 away from home. Hawaii has only lost one home game and that came week 1 against USC 49-36.
Stats to consider:
Idaho Vandals:
- Idaho is 4-3 on the season with a 1-1 WAC record.
- They are 1-3 on the road.
- Points against per game: 22.3 (47th)
- Points for per game: 33 (33rd)
- Passing yards a game: 342 (4th)
- Rushing yards a game: 89.3 (113th)
Hawaii Warriors:
- Hawaii is 6-2 on the season with a 4-0 WAC record.
- They are 3-1 at home this year.
- Points against per game: 23.9 (57th)
- Points for per game: 38.5 (12th)
- Passing yards a game: 400.8 (1st)
- Rushing yards a game: 90.6 (110th)
What to watch for:
- Both teams bring in passing games ranked inside the top 4 in the nation. Both teams come in ranked outside the top 110 in the nation rushing. Expect this one to be an absolute aerial duel.
- Idaho Senior QB Nathan Enderle has 2,075 yards 16 TDs and 10 Ints. Last week vs New Mexico State he threw for 291 yards 3 TDs and no Ints.
- Hawaii Junior QB leads his team the nation with 2,921 yards 22 TDs and only 6 Ints.
- Both teams have thrown for a ton, but the leading receiver is Hawaii’s WR Greg Salas who has 1,068 yards and 8 TDs.
Hawaii plays at such a high level at home, it should strike fear into the Vandals. The Vandals only have one road win and that came four weeks ago at Western Michigan. As a sports pick, expect Hawaii to be able to out throw this Idaho team and they very well could run away with it.

#4 TCU Horned Frogs at UNLV Rebels
Saturday October 30, 2010 11:00 PM EST
Line: TCU -35
TCU comes into this MWC matchup fresh off a big 38-7 victory over Air Force last week at home. They have looked dominate this year and carry in a 8 game winning streak. UNLV is coming home after a horrific two game road trip. They were 0-2 on that road trip and lost by a combined 92-20.
Stats to consider:
TCU Horned Frogs:
- TCU is 8-0 with a 4-0 MWC record.
- They are 2-0 on the road with their largest margin of victory by 27 points.
- Points against per game: 9 (1st)
- Points for per game: 39.9 (7th)
- Passing yards a game: 209.5 (69th)
- Rushing yards a game: 270.6 (10th)
UNLV Rebels:
- UNLV is 1-6 the season with a 1-2 MWC record.
- They are 1-2 at home this year with no loss coming by more than 20 points. Played Wisconsin week 1 at hoe and Nevada week 5
- Points against per game: 36.4 (110th)
- Points for per game: 18.4 (106th)
- Passing yards a game: 171.3 (98th)
- Rushing yards a game: 111.9 (99th)
What to watch for:
- TCU has been dominant on both sides of the football as they rank inside the top 7 in points for and points against.
- The same can’t be said for UNLV who ranks outside the top 106 in both categories.
- TCU Sophomore RB has been stellar this year with 874 yards and 9 TDs. Sophomore RB Matthew Tucker has 450 yards with 6 TDs as well. Look for the Horned Frogs to give these guys touches early and often.
- Senior TCU QB Andy Dalton has done well chucking the ball as he has 1,635 yards 14 TDs and 5 Ints.
UNLV had an extra week to prepare for this football game making this a tougher football pick. TCU has looked great this year, but they haven’t blown anyone out on the road. Not only that, but UNLV has not been blown out at home so they may lose by 20 or so but I can’t see them losing by 5 TDs coming off a bye and playing at home. Take the points and hope UNLV used the bye week to get prepared for a very talented TCU team.
Free College Football Pick: UNLV +35
