Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The top players in the league take to the diamond at Angel Stadium as the American League and National League play the All-Star Game.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The National League will be looking to end its lengthy losing streak at baseball’s All-Star Game when they take on the American League at Angel Stadium of Anaheim (8:05pm ET, FOX). The National League last won the All-Star Game back in 1996 at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. The AL claimed the All-Star Game 4-3 last season in St. Louis.

Oddsmakers have the American League set as the -120 home favorites for Tuesday night, with the total for the contest pegged at 8.5 runs. Elected as starters for the Junior Circuit this year were catcher Joe Mauer, first baseman Justin Morneau, second baseman Robinson Cano, third baseman Evan Longoria, shortstop Derek Jeter, outfielders Carl Crawford, Josh Hamilton, and Ichiro Suzuki, and designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero. Morneau, though, suffered a mild concussion last week and won’t take part in the game; White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko replaced him on the roster.

Elected as National League starters for the game were catcher Yadier Molina, first baseman Albert Pujols, second baseman Chase Utley, third baseman David Wright, shortstop Hanley Ramirez, and outfielders Ryan Braun, Andre Ethier, and Jason Heyward. Utley is on the disabled list because of a thumb injury and won’t suit up on Tuesday; Martin Prado will take his place in the National League’s lineup. Heyward is also on the DL with a thumb injury and he’ll be forced to miss the All-Star Game as well.

Finally, the WNBA offers up one game on Tuesday night, with Los Angeles at Tulsa. The Sparks (4-13 SU, 4-13 ATS) are 0-7 on the road so far this season, and they fell 98-89 to Phoenix in their last game. DeLisha Milton-Jones tossed in 20 points for Los Angeles in that losing cause. The Shock (3-14 SU, 4-13 ATS) ride an 11-game losing streak into Tuesday’s game, and they were blasted 100-72 in Indiana in their last contest. Amber Holt had a team-high 18 points off the bench for Tulsa in that big defeat.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Yankees take on the Mariners, F1 races at Silverstone, and the World Cup concludes in South Africa with Netherlands vs. Spain.

Chasing the World Cup . . .

The World Cup finally comes to an end on Sunday with the championship game between the Netherlands and Spain at Soccer City in Johannesburg (2:30pm ET). Spain slipped past Germany 1-0 in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday, and they’re sitting as the favorites for the final at +110. The Netherlands, coming off a 3-2  victory over Uruguay, is the +240 underdog, with draw odds of +230, and the total at 2.5.

The American League wraps up its first-half schedule on Sunday with Minnesota at Detroit, Boston at Toronto, Cleveland at Tampa Bay, Kansas City at the White Sox, Baltimore at Texas, the Angels at Oakland, and the Yankees at Seattle. CC Sabathia (11-3, 3.19 ERA) is expected to get the ball for New York in Sunday afternoon’s contest, while the Mariners send Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-8, 5.74 ERA) to the hill. Lefthander Sabathia picked up the win in each of his past seven starts, and he beat the M’s on July 1 (one earned run over eight innings). Lefthander Rowland-Smith was Sabathia’s opposition on July 1, picking up a no-decision while giving up two runs over six innings.

Meanwhile, the National League on Sunday has Cincinnati at Philadelphia, San Francisco at Washington, St. Louis at Houston, Pittsburgh at Milwaukee, San Diego at Colorado, Florida at Arizona, the Cubs at the Dodgers, and Atlanta at the Mets. Derek Lowe (9-7, 4.40 ERA) is the Braves’ probable starter for Sunday, while New York goes with Johan Santana (6-5, 3.15 ERA). Righthander Lowe lost to the Phillies in his last trip to the mound despite giving up just two runs over his seven innings of work. Lefthander Santana blanked the Reds on three hits over nine innings in his last start; Santana took a no-decision against the Braves back on May 18, allowing two runs over seven innings.

Roaring around the track . . .

The drivers of Formula 1 will hit the track at Silverstone on Sunday for the British Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel is coming off a win in the European Grand Prix last time out, and the oddsmakers have him pegged as the 9/4 favorite for Sunday’s race. Lewis Hamilton is listed at 3/1 for Sunday, with Mark Webber at 9/2, Fernando Alonso at 13/2, and Jenson Button at 7/1. Vettel won the British Grand Prix last season, with Webber following him across the finish line just 15 seconds later. Button ended up in sixth place at that event, while Alonso was 14th, and Hamilton had to settle for a 16th-place finish.

The Canadian Football League wraps up its Week 2 slate on Sunday with Montreal at Edmonton. Montreal couldn’t come up with a win in its first game of the season last week, falling 54-51 on the road to Saskatchewan. Edmonton is also 0-1 on the year after getting beaten 25-10 at home by British Columbia last week. Oddsmakers have the Alouettes listed as 6-point road favorites for Sunday’s matchup, with the total at 54.

Finally, there’s just one game on the WNBA’s schedule for Sunday with Chicago at New York. The Sky (8-10 SU, 10-8 ATS) were beaten 58-51 at home by Indiana in their last game despite Sylvia Fowles’ 26-point performance. The Liberty (7-9 SU, 7-8-1 ATS) are coming off a 78-70 loss to Seattle; Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 20 points in that defeat.

The Braves are slated to send Tim Hudson (8-4, 2.44 ERA) to the mound on Saturday, with New York going with Mike Pelfrey (10-3, 3.39 ERA). Righthander Hudson was a hard-luck loser against the Marlins in his most recent trip to the mound, allowing three runs on six hits over his eight innings of work. The drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will take the track on a Saturday night for a second straight week, competing in the LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick are the 13/2 Vegas co-favorites to visit victory lane in Saturday’s Cup event, followed by Tony Stewart at 6/1, Jimmie Johnson at 15/2, and Kyle Busch at 17/2. Gordon, Harvick, Stewart, and Busch have all won Cup races at Chicagoland in the past, while Johnson will be looking for his first victory on the track. Mark Martin, the defending champion, is listed at 10/1 odds to repeat that win on Saturday.

There are two games on the Canadian Football League’s schedule for Saturday, with Calgary at Hamilton and Saskatchewan at British Columbia. Calgary got past Toronto 30-16 at home in Week 1 last time out, while Hamilton is coming off a 49-29 road loss to Winnipeg. The Tiger-Cats are 2-point home favorites for Saturday, with the total at 52 points. Matt Cain (6-7, 2.98 ERA) will go up against Stephen Strasburg (2-2, 2.45 ERA) in that last matchup. Righthander Cain had to settle for a no-decision last time out, allowing three runs over seven innings of work against the Rockies; San Francisco is 0-4 in Cain’s last four starts. Kyle Busch is the 13/2 Vegas favorite to visit victory lane at Daytona on Saturday, with Tony Stewart next at 6/1 odds, and both Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon at 8/1 odds. Jimmie Johnson, who is coming off back-to-back wins in Sonoma and Loudon, is then tied with Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 10/1 odds, with Matt Kenseth at 12/1, and Kevin Harvick (the current series points leader) back at 13/1.
