Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The American League schedule for Tuesday has a doubleheader between the White Sox and Tigers in Detroit, plus the Angels at Baltimore, Toronto at the Yankees, Minnesota at Tampa Bay, Cleveland at Boston, Kansas City at Oakland, and Texas at Seattle. Colby Lewis (9-7, 3.40 ERA) is slated to take on Jason Vargas (6-5, 3.20 ERA) in that Rangers/Mariners matchup. Righthander Lewis was a hard-luck loser against the Athletics last time out, surrendering just one run on five hits over his seven innings of work (and fanning eight). Lefthander Vargas was knocked around by the White Sox in his most recent start, giving up five runs on eight hits in just 4 1-3 innings in that game.

Meanwhile, the National League on Tuesday offers up Cincinnati at Pittsburgh, Philadelphia at Florida, Milwaukee at the Cubs, Houston at St. Louis, Washington at Arizona, San Diego at the Dodgers, San Francisco at Colorado, and the Mets at Atlanta. R.A. Dickey (7-4, 2.32 ERA) will face off against Derek Lowe (10-9, 4.58 ERA) in that last matchup. Righthander Dickey dominated the Cardinals in his most recent start, holding them scoreless on four hits over 8 1-3 innings of work. Righthander Lowe is coming off a loss to the Nationals in which he gave up four runs on five hits over five innings of work, fanning three. Atlanta is just 1-6 over Lowe’s last seven trips to the hill.
