Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Yankees look for a victory over the Mariners, Tiger Woods takes to the course at Aronimink, and the new CFL season gets started.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The American League schedule for Thursday has Toronto at Cleveland, Oakland at Baltimore, Tampa Bay at Minnesota, Texas at the Angels, and Seattle at the Yankees. Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-7, 6.18 ERA) will take the hill for the Mariners on Thursday against New York’s CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.49 ERA). Lefthander Rowland-Smith was knocked around by the Brewers last time out, surrendering five earned runs over his 5 1-3 innings of work. Lefthander Sabathia has won five straight starts, beating the Dodgers in his last outing by allowing just one earned run over eight innings pitched.

Over in the National League on Thursday it’ll be Cincinnati at the Cubs, Philadelphia at Pittsburgh, Milwaukee at St. Louis, San Francisco at Colorado, Houston at San Diego, and the Mets at Washington. Johan Santana (5-5, 3.55 ERA) will try to go over the .500 mark for New York in that last matchup, while Livan Hernandez (6-4, 3.10 ERA) is slated to get the ball for the Nationals. Lefthander Santana is coming off back-to-back losses to the Twins and Yankees, giving up nine earned runs over his last 12 innings of work. Righthander Hernandez took a no-decision against the Orioles in his last trip to the mound, giving up five earned runs on 11 hits over his six innings pitched.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

Tiger Woods hits the links on Thursday as the PGA Tour begins the AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, Pennsylvania. Vegas has Woods listed as the 5/2 favorite for this week’s tournament, with Jim Furyk next on that odds list at 10/1. Dustin Johnson (15/1) and Robert Allenby (18/1) sit just behind those top two contenders, with each of Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler getting 20/1 odds for the week.

The Canadian Football League season gets underway on Thursday, with Montreal at Saskatchewan and Toronto at Calgary. The Alouettes and Roughriders met in last year’s Grey Cup game, with Montreal rallying for a 28-27 victory in that contest. Oddsmakers have the Als set as 3-point road favorites for Thursday night, with the total for the game at 53.3. The Stampeders are then set as the big 13.5-point home favorites in their opener against Toronto, with that matchup’s total pegged at 48 points.

Finally, there are four games on tap around the WNBA on Thursday, with Connecticut at Chicago, Washington at Phoenix, San Antonio at Los Angeles, and Minnesota at Atlanta. The Lynx (5-10 SU, 7-8 ATS) fell 80-66 to San Antonio last time out despite Seimone Augustus’ 14-point effort. The Dream (12-4 SU, 9-6-1 ATS) are coming off a 94-88 win over Phoenix, with Penny Taylor scoring 31 points for Phoenix on the night.
