The teams are sets, the spread is out, the plans are made and they game is upon us.  The game.  The biggest game of the year in all of American sports.  This game has evolved into something of such an enormity that it is beyond football for our culture.  In fact football naturalists condemn the Superbowl because it seems to have lost its true football appeal.  It is now a day embedded in American society.  Women, children and non-sports fans of all ages partake in the Superbowl festivities across our great nation.  The military is there, famous rock bands, the two best NFL teams, celebrities and fans, all mixed together on this glorious day.  This game personifies America.  So, why not make it a national holiday?

How many people call in “sick” on the Monday after the Superbowl?  I don’t know the exact amount either but I do know that it is quite a few.  I think that it is time that Superbowl Sunday and Monday become a day off for our country’s hard working men and women.  I mean, we have a holiday for just about everything, why not this great American event.

How great would it be this year to know that you don’t have to rush home from your Superbowl bash to get home early because you have to go to work tomorrow.  It would be the greatest feeling in the world.  Or to know that you don’t have to take it easy so that you can be functional the next day, now that would be great.

I think it is time we start an American movement to get the Superbowl Monday to be a day off from work.  Join me in this quest and petition your politicians expressing the importance of this great day to you, your family and friends.

Enjoy the game and call in sick early!
