Akron Zips (0-6) vs. Ohio Bobcats (3-3)

Saturday, October 16th, 2010 2:00PM ET

Line: Ohio -16.5

Ohio has been playing some solid football as of late, winning their last two games against Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green. The team now heads back home, looking for their fourth win of the season against a very weak Akron team. The Akron Zips haven’t been able to come close to any of their opponents all season, besides their overtime loss against Gardner-Webb in week two. This Akron team can’t run the ball or make defensive stops, last week they had five turnovers against Kent State.

Keys to the Game:

–          Ohio’s Boo Jackson had a quiet game against Bowling Green last week, throwing for only 76 yards while completing three touchdown passes. He’s passes for 752 yards and eight touchdowns this season, and will be able to crank those senior stats up this weekend against a flimsy defense.

–          The Akron Zips only ran the ball for 62 yards last week. The team’s quarterback, Patrick Nicely was held to 133 yards and threw three interceptions.

–          Phil Bates is Ohio’s second option at quarterback; the junior has primarily focused on running the ball this year. Last week Bates ran for 142 yards and ran in two touchdowns for the team. The game was his best of the season, the junior will also see more snaps when going up against Akron.

Akron has let opponents average 37.8 points against them this season, Ohio should be able to put up decent numbers against them this weekend. The Bobcats have done a good job running the ball lately, averaging 155.5 rushing yards this season. Their backfield combo of Jackson and Bates won’t have a hard time running the ball all around this Zips defense.
