Army Black Knights (4-2) vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-2)

Saturday, October 16th, 2010 2:00PM ET

Line: Rutgers -7

This should be pure college football at its finest; two hungry teams eager to score a big win for the season. Both teams are evenly matched, with Rutgers having the home field advantage. The Army Black Knights went with the typical route last weekend against Tulane: pass for 27 yards and pound the ball on the ground with Trent Steelman and Jared Hassin. The philosophy is working for the school this year, as they cruised to their fourth win last weekend.

Keys to the Game:

–          Rutgers showed they can play under pressure when they score ten unanswered with less than four minutes to go to steal a win from Connecticut. The team’s quarterback Chas Dodd led the comeback, throwing his two touchdowns and passing for 322 yards in the game.

–          Steelman threw five passes last week, completing three of them for 31 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Trent carried the ball 17 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. Some defenses have shown they can’t stop this team’s ground game, those teams are: Eastern Michigan, North Texas, Duke and Tulane.

–          Rutgers have been benefitting from their versatile player in Mohamed Sanu. The sophomore caught two passes last week and ran for 27 yards and a touchdown last week. It wasn’t his best performance, but he’s been able to put up the numbers by both catching and running the ball this year.

This should be a close call. I’m a big fan of the Black Knights’ style this year compared to the Scarlet Knights. But Rutgers has the durable defensive unit, a more complete quarterback and a phenomenal talent in Mohamed Sanu. Rutgers should sneak by with an important win for the season.
