Connecticut Huskies at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Friday October 8, 2010 7:30 PM EST

Line: Connecticut -6

Connecticut brings into this game a 3-2 record. They are still looking for their first win on the road after losses at Michigan and at Temple. Neither game was within 2 TDs reach. Rutgers comes into this Big East game looking to get over .500 with a record of 2-2. The Scarlet Knights are 1-2 at home but lost close games the last two weeks to North Carolina and Tulane. Both games were lost by a combined 7 points.

The Huskies come into this game favored by two field goals. The Huskies are averaging 34.6 points which ranks 31st in the nation. Their defense is ranked at 44th allowing 21 points a game. Like most teams, the Huskies running game is superior to their passing game. They are 25th in the nation with 209 rushing yards a game. Their passing game comes in at 90th with only 180 passing yards a game. The Huskies will look to keep Junior RB Jordan Todman going who has 638 yards with 7 TDs. Last week vs Vanderbilt, Todman had 37 carries with 190 yards and 2 TDs. The Huskies will turn to Junior QB Cody Endres to support the passing game. Endres has 4 TDs on the season and got his first start last week and got the win.

Rutgers will have their defense pumped and ready to go for this one. They have not allowed more than 17 points in a game this year and are only allowing 12 per game which is 4th in the nation. On the other side of the football, the Scarlet Knights will need to put up some points. They are only averaging 19.3 points per game. They are lead by their rushing attack which is averaging 144.8 yards a game which is 71st in the nation. Their passing game hasn’t been stellar ranking at 106th in the nation at 153 yards per game. The X-factor for the Rutgers offense is Mohamed Sanu. Sanu is a Sophomore and has 234 receiving yards with 2 TDs and 225 rushing yards with 3 TDs. Sanu is coming off his best game of the season where he had 191 total yards with 2 TDs. Starting QB Tom Savage will be a game time decision, but Freshman QB Chas Dodd filled in nice last week throwing for 176 yards a TD and an Int.

The QB situation for this Rutgers team worries me. With football picks, I love defenses. Rutgers has the far superior defense in this game without a doubt. In two road games thus far, Uconn has only scored 26 points combined. It has not been pretty rough for Uconn on the road and they have to go into Rutgers where this defense is playing at a very high level. Rutgers has lost two tough home games, only by a combined 7 points. Rutgers defense should keep this game close and Rutgers very well could pull off the upset based on how the Huskies have played on the road.
