#23 Florida State Seminoles at #13 Florida Hurricanes

Saturday October 9, 2010 8:00 PM EST

Line: Miami -6.5

This in state battle features two ACC teams trying to continue their perfect in conference records. Florida State brings in a 4-1 record overall with a 2-0 record in the ACC. Miami has a 3-1 record overall and a 1-0 in the ACC. Florida State is 1-1 on the road thus far. Their one loss came in the second week at Oklahoma 47-17. The Hurricanes are 1-0 at home and look to continue their strong start to the season.

The Seminoles have shown that they can score points, averaging 35 points a game, and shut down opposing teams, allowing 15.4 points a game. Their rushing game has been a huge reason why they have been able to put up points. Their rushing attack ranks at 26th overall with 208.6 yards a game. The rushing game is lead by Junior RB Jermaine Thomas. Thomas has 308 yards and 4 TDs on the season while averaging 6.3 yards a carry. The running game of Florida State could be missing a huge contributor though. Junior RB Ty  Jones has an ankle injury, but before the ankle injury was averaging 7.9 yards a carry with 2 TDs on the season. The X-factor for the Seminoles is Senior QB Christian Ponder. Ponder has 844 yards with 8 TDs and 3 Ints.

The Hurricanes defense has been solid thus far for Miami. Their defense comes in ranked at 16th only allowing 15 points per game. Their offense comes in at 39th overall with 32.5 points a game. The game will ride on the back of Junior QB Jacory Harris. Harris has 895 yards with 10 TDs and 8 Ints. The thing that worries many people who back the Hurricanes is the fact Harris only had a completion percentage of 39.4, which is not going to get it done vs a very good Florida State team.

The last time Florida State was on the road vs a ranked team they lost by 30 points. Granted this was to a very talented Oklahoma team. Miami  has only played one ranked team on the season and that was at Ohio State by 12 points. Making football picks surrounding the Hurricanes have been relatively easy this year. This one could be a lot tougher than most people will assume. The injury of Ty Jones could hurt the Seminoles big time because their running game has been so effective. This game will revolve around the play of  Miami’s Jacory Harris. If he plays like he did last week, Miami will lose. I think he will play a lot better than last week and Miami’s defense will play excellent football at home.
