College Football Pick Houston at Memphis 10-30-10

October 27, 2010

Houston Cougars at Memphis Tigers

Saturday October 30, 2010 7:00 PM EST

Line: Houston -14

Houston broke a two game losing streak last week with a 45-20 win at Southern Methodist. Houston did lose Case Keenum at QB, but they have finally found a formula to win football games. That is running the football after a game where their two RBs ran for over 160 yards and 4 TDs. Memphis brings into this game a four game losing streak and things do not look good for the Tigers.

Stats to consider:

Houston Cougars:

  • The Cougars are 4-3 on the season and have a 3-1 C-USA record.
  • They are 1-2 on the road and their first victory on the road came last week at Southern Methodist 45-20.
  • Points against per game: 29.6 (85th)
  • Points for per game: 39.6 (9th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 158.1 (54th)
  • Passing yards a game: 284.4 (17th)

Memphis Tigers:

  • The Tigers are 1-6 on the season with an 0-4 C-USA record.
  • The Tigers are are 1-2 at home this season and lost last week vs Southern Miss 41-19.
  • Points against per game: 39.4 (115th)
  • Points for per game: 13.9 (116th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 91.4 (108th)
  • Passing yards a game: 183.4 (86th)

What to watch for:

  • Memphis comes into this game ranked outside the top 115 in points for and points against. They might be able to score some points on Houston as they rank 85th in points against, but good luck trying to stop this Cougars running game.
  • The Cougar’s number one rusher is Junior RB Bryce Beall. Beall has 629 yards with 12 TDs and is coming off a game in which he had 85 yards and 2 TDs. Freshman RB Michael Hayes has also contributed with 257 yards and 7 TDs. Hayes had 86 yards on 22 carries with 2 TDs.
  • Freshman QB David Piland has shown some big potential this year. Piland has 816 yards with 6 TDs and 3 Ints. This is his body of work through only 3 games and Piland is poised to have a good game.

Football picks are made easy by bad football teams. Memphis is getting love from Vegas saying that Houston is only a 14 point favorite. Houston used its’ running game more than ever before last week and will use their duo to perfection in this one. Don’t be surprised if QB David Piland has a good game for Houston to go with this ground game.
