October 28, 2010

Michigan Wolverines at Penn State Nittany Lions

Saturday October 30, 2010 8:00 PM EST

Line: Michigan -3

Michigan lost two straight home games before their bye last week. Granted those loses were vs ranked Michigan State and ranked Iowa. Penn State bounced back from two straight loses with a win at Minnesota last week 33-21.

Stats to consider:

Michigan Wolverines:

  • Michigan is 5-2 with a 1-2 Big Ten record.
  • They are 2-0 on the road.
  • Points against per game: 28.4 (79th)
  • Points for per game: 36 (17th)
  • Passing yards a game: 250.4 (39th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 281.6 (7th)

Penn State Nittany Lions:

  • Penn State is 4-3 with a 1-2 Big Ten record.
  • They are 3-1 at home this year with their first loss coming at the hand of Illinois 3 weeks ago 33-13.
  • Points against per game: 18.4 (22nd)
  • Points for per game: 20.3 (99th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 128.7 (86th)
  • Passing yards a game: 208.7 (71st)

What to watch for:

  • Michigan’s QB Denard Robinson came out during the week and proclaimed himself to be 100% healthy following a bye week. Robinson has 1,096 yards with 9 TDs on the ground as well as 1,319 yards with 9 TDs and 5 Ints through the air.
  • Michigan’s defense struggled before the bye and in their 3 games before the bye they gave up 35,34, and 38 points.
  • Penn State has struggled scoring the football. Things will only get more tough for Penn State if starting QB Robert Bolden is out with a head injury he suffered last weekend.

Sports picks are always made easier with teams coming off a bye. If Michigan couldn’t use the extra time to get healthy and be prepared for this game, than head coach Rich Rodriguez should lose his job. Look for Denard Robinson to get back on track as a Heisman hopeful in a big way. Penn State will struggle to score the football even vs the week Wolverine defense.
