Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-8) vs. #14 Michigan State Spartans (8-1)

Saturday, November 6th, 2010 12:00PM EST

Line: Michigan State -24

Michigan State suffered their first loss of the season in their last game against Iowa. The team was rattled by Iowa’s tenacious defense, giving up three turnovers throughout the loss. Spartans’ quarterback, Kirk Cousins couldn’t handle Iowa’s secondary, throwing three interceptions. Minnesota continues to struggle, losing their eighth-straight game last week.

Keys to the Game:

–          Michigan State’s defense was also roughed up in last week’s lost. The Spartans gave up a total of 352 yards against Iowa, allowing a total of 37 points in the game. The defense is ranked 29th in the nation, giving up 20 points per game this season.

–         Minnesota’s eighth loss of the season came to Ohio State last week. The team’s defense was demolished, giving up a total of 507 yards and 52 points. Minnesota’s defense is among the worst in the nation, the team has been giving up 34.1 points this season.

–         Michigan State’s running back, Edwin Baker only ran for 21 yards last week, it was his lowest rushing total of the season. Regardless, Baker has been able to average 6.5 rushing yards per carry this season, while hitting a total of exactly 800 yards last week.

Michigan State should look great this weekend against a Minnesota defense that has been ran over all season long. Cousins should be able to find both success in passing the ball and handing it off to his efficient running backs, but the team hasn’t dominated any team this season besides Northern Colorado, Minnesota should be able to avoid getting stomped on in this one.
