Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-4) vs. #20 Wisconsin Badgers (4-1)

Saturday, October 9th, 2010, 12:00PM EST

Line: Wisconsin -22

In this Big Ten meeting, the Wisconsin Badgers are coming off a their first loss to a gutsy Michigan State last weekend. The Badgers were having a phenomenal season, winning their first four games before their meeting against the Spartans. They are ranked 13th in the nation in rushing yards, averaging 239 yards a game, while putting up an average of 36.4 points against opponents this season. They will look to put a beating against a struggling Minnesota squad that lost, 29-28, against Northwestern last weekend.

Keys to the Game:

–          Wisconsin continues to use their dual threat in the running game in John Clay and the newly respected, James White. The freshman running back, White, ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns off of only 10 touches against Michigan State. Minnesota will find themselves having a hard time stopping one of the best running teams in the nation.

–          Minnesota has been able to utilize their strong passing game this season, their senior quarterback, Adam Weber has been able to spread the ball well across the field. Their leading receiver, MaqQueis Gray, only had two catches for eight yards in their last game and is now dealing with a minor injury. Weber’s play last game resulted in him passing for 194 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The team is also getting solid play from their running back, DeLeon Eskridge, who ran for 115 yards and touchdown in their previous loss.

–          Wisconsin will look to take more control of this game this time around. In their loss against Michigan State, the team had the ball for 23 minutes compared to MSU’s 36 minutes of possession. The loss left nothing but frustration and anticipation to belittle their inner-conference opponent in Minnesota. Quarterback, Scott Tolzien only threw for 127 yards and a touchdown last game, completing only 11 out of his 27 passes. Expect the senior to get those passing yards back to where they were when the team had their winning streak.

Wisconsin is coming off a critical loss to Michigan State; look for them to pummel this sub-par Minnesota team. They will be anxious to go back home and show more improvement from their defense, which let MSU convert two out of three, 4th-down conversions last week.
