#7 Nebraska Cornhuskers at Kansas State Wildcats

Line: Nebraska -11.5

This Big 12 matchup brings in two 4-0 teams. Kansas State comes into the game seeking their second Big 12 win. The Wildcats got a lackluster win vs UCF last week 17-13. Nebraska is coming off a 17-3 win over South Dakota State last week. Kansas State is looking for their 5th straight win at home. This could turn into a Big 12 game that could favor Nebraska.

The main story coming into this game will be the #7 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Cornhuskers have shown that they are able to put up points this year averaging 40 points per game, ranking 11th in the nation. Their defense has been a huge part to the success of the Cornhuskers. The Nebraska defense is only allowing 12.8 points a game which ranks 7th overall. There isn’t too much too worry about on the defensive ball, but the alarming stat is the passing yards per game compared to the rushing yards per game for the Cornhuskers. They rank 102nd in passing yards a game with 162 per game and rank 4th overall in rushing yards with 309 yards per game. Leading the rushing attack is the Cornhuskers QB Taylor Martinez. The Freshman QB has 496 rushing yards with 8 TDs on the ground. Martinez doesn’t have great throwing stats to accompany his rushing stats. Martinez has 532 passing yards with 2 TDs and 3 Ints. Senior RB Roy Helu Jr. looks to take some pressure off Martinez. Helu has 305 yards rushing with 4 TDs.

Kansas State doesn’t have the high profile stats that Nebraska brings into the game. The Wildcats bring in the 39th ranked defense, allowing a little under 20 points per game. Their offense is averaging 30.8 points a game, ranking 50th in the nation. Like the Cornhuskers, the Wildcats have been able to run the ball but have struggled throwing the ball. The Wildcats are 22nd overall in the nation running the ball, averaging 216 yards a game. However, they are only averaging 161.8 yards per game which is good for 103rd in the nation. Nebraska will look to shut down Wildcat Senior RB Daniel Thomas. Thomas comes into the game with 628 yards and 6 TDs. The Wildcats will need a strong performance from Senior QB Carson Coffman who has 639 yards with 5 TDs and 2 Ints.

All my football picks revolve around defenses. The Cornhusker defense has been nasty this year. The most points they have allowed this year was 21 too a very tough Washington team on the road. Kansas State will have to come out and play smart football to keep this game close. Nebraska has the X-factor in this game in QB Taylor Martinez who has done it all this year. The Nebraska running game will prove too much for the Wildcat defense.
