College Football Pick Nebraska vs Oklahoma 12-4-10

December 3, 2010

#13 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs #9 Oklahoma Sooners

Saturday December 4, 2010 8:00 PM EST

Line: Oklahoma -4.5

The Big 12 Championship game will be down in Texas. Oklahoma got a huge win last week 47-41 at Oklahoma State to bring their winning streak to 3. Nebraska beat up on a bad road team in Colorado last week 45-17. 2 weeks ago they lost down in Texas to Texas A&M 9-6.

Stats to consider:

Nebraska Cornhuskers:

  • Nebraska is 10-2 with a 6-2 Big 12 record.
  • Points against per game: 16.8 (8th)
  • Points for per game: 33.8 (25th)
  • Passing yards a game: 155.2 (108th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 269.2 (8th)

Oklahoma Sooners:

  • The Sooners are 10-2 with a 6-2 Big 12 record.
  • Points against per game: 22.1 (36th)
  • Points for per game: 37.5 (16th)
  • Passing yards a game: 336.3 (4th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 143.8 (75th)

What to watch for:

  • The Nebraska offense will revolve around Senior RB Roy Helu Jr. He has rushed for 1,120 yards and 10 TDs. Helu hasn’t rushed for a TD the last 2 weeks.
  • Nebraska Freshman QB Taylor Martinez is considered day-to-day with an ankle/toe injury going into this game. He didn’t play last week.
  • Oklahoma Sophomore QB Landry Jones has thrown for 3,947 yards 34 TDs and 10 Ints. His main target has been Junior WR Ryan Broyles who has 1,391 yards and 13 TDs. He has 300+ yards and 5 TDs combined the last 3 games.
  • Sooners Senior RB DeMarco Murray has 1,053 yards and 14 TDs. He has 535 receiving yards and 5 TDs as well. He comes into the game with a knee injury and could be a game-time decision.

Every sports pick comes down to the health of the teams. Nebraska may be without QB Taylor Martinez. Even if he does play, I’m not so sure how effective he will be. He has an ailing ankle and toe injury. RB DeMarco Murray has been huge for the Sooners and could be out with a knee injury. Both teams will not be at 100% and this could be a very close game as both defenses are solid.
