College Football Pick New Mexico State at Nevada 11-20-10

November 19, 2010

New Mexico State Aggies at #18 Nevada Wolf Pack

Saturday November 20, 2010 4:05 PM EST

Line: Nevada -37.5

New Mexico State has lost 2 straight and have yet to win a game on the road. They have only played one ranked team, and that was at home vs Boise State in a 59-0 loss. Nevada has won 3 straight, but have only won a game by 40 points or more.

Stats to consider:

New Mexico State Aggies:

  • The Aggies are 2-8 with a 1-5 WAC record.
  • They are 0-4 on the road.
  • Points against per game: 36.3 (110th)
  • Points for per game: 15.8 (116th)
  • Passing yards a game: 165.4 (101st)
  • Rushing yards a game: 138.1 (83rd)

Nevada Wolf Pack:

  • Nevada is 9-1 with a 4-1 WAC record.
  • They are 5-0 at home.
  • Points against per game: 23.3 (49th)
  • Points for per game: 43.3 (4th)
  • Passing yards a game: 231.6 (53rd)
  • Rushing yards a game: 310.5 (3rd)

What to watch for:

  • Nevada Senior QB Colin Kaepernick has thrown for 2,161 yards 17 TDs and 6 Ints. He has ran for 946 yards and 15 TDs as well.
  • Nevada Senior RB Vai Taua has 1,130 yards and 14 TDs. Last week Taua rushed for 3 TDs.

This football pick involves a blowout in the making. Nevada plays very well at home, and New Mexico State struggles on the road. My worry in this one is that Nevada will be looking down the schedule to next week when they play Boise State. If Nevada jumps out to an early lead, which they should, we could see the starters sit as they did a few weeks back vs Utah State when they allowed 35 second half points with the backups. Health will be a bigger concern than margin of victory in this one and Nevada will not want QB Colin Kaepernick to get hurt.
