Northwestern Wildcats (6-2) vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (5-3)

Saturday, November 6th, 2010 3:30PM EST

Line: Penn State -6

Overview:

Penn State is coming off a prideful win over Michigan last week, the team saw a key performance come from their sophomore quarterback, Matthew McGloin. Evan Royster and the Penn State defense stepped up and managed to hold off Denard Robinson and the Wolverines. Northwestern snapped their two-game losing streak by beating Indiana, 20-17 last week.

Keys to the Game:

–          Northwestern’s Dan Persa bounced back from his beating at Michigan State the week before. The senior quarterback was able to connect 18 of his 28 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

–         Penn State has some competition for the quarterback spot now that McGloin had a decent outing against Michigan. Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin will battle it out during practice this week for the starting spot. Regardless of who wins that spot, Penn State’s Evan Royster recently became the school’s all time leading rusher. He has a total of 600 yards and four touchdowns off 117 carries season.

–        Northwestern has looked pretty good this season when facing the tougher competition. The team’s only losses are to Michigan State and Purdue, but they have the talent to defeat these NIttany Lions.

Look for Northwestern to bring heavy heat towards whatever quarterback Penn State decides to play. Northwestern will be away in this game but they do have a great passing game and a running game that’s ranked 68th in the nation.
