College Football Pick Oregon State at UCLA 11-6-10

November 2, 2010

Oregon State Beavers at UCLA Bruins

Saturday November 6, 2010 7:00 PM EST

Line: Oregon State -5

UCLA comes into this Pac-10 matchup after losing three straight games. This team has been streaky all year as they started out with 2 straight loses then won 3 straight games, now has lost the last 3. Oregon State has played some good football this year, but have suffered some tough close loses. Not only that, but they have played TCU and Boise State this year, both teams ranking inside the top 5.

Stats to consider:

Oregon State Beavers:

  • The Beavers are 4-3 this year with a 3-1 Pac-10 record.
  • They are 1-2 on the road. The two loses were by less than 13 points and were vs Boise State and Washington.
  • Points against per game: 27.4 (75th)
  • Points for per game: 29.9 (48th)
  • Passing yards a game: 219.6 (57th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 131.6 (88th)

UCLA Bruins:

  • UCLA is 3-5 with a 1-4 record.
  • They are 2-2 at home this year.
  • Points against per game: 30.4 (91st)
  • Points for per game: 21.3 (96th)
  • Passing yards a game: 120 (117th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 192.5 (26th)

What to watch for:

  • UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin has been great this year with 792 yards and 5 TDs. He has been spelled by Junior RB Derrick Coleman who has 408 yards and 5 TDs.
  • Oregon State will get Junior RB Jacquizz Rodgers the ball early and often. Rodgers has 740 yards and 13 TDs. Rodgers had 22 carries for 119 yards and 3 TDs last week in a 35-7 win over Cal at home last week.
  • The better QB in this one belongs to the Beavers. Sophomore QB Ryan Katz has 1,503 yards with 10 TDs and 4 Ints.

This football pick is easier than most. UCLA has been very streaky this season, and I don’t see them breaking their 3 game losing streak in this one. Beaver R Jacquizz Rodgers has been very good this season and should have another big game.
