Penn State Nittany Lions (3-3) at Minnesota (1-6)

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 12:00PM ET

Line: Penn State -9.5

The Nittany Lions have undergone serious growing pains under their true freshman quarterback this year, as they’re currently riding a two-game losing streak. So far, Robert Bolden has passed for 1,177 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. Running back, Evan Royster hasn’t been able to carry the ball as well as he did last season, but Penn State has seen notable work from their other backs in Stephon Green and Silas Redd. Minnesota hasn’t seen daylight after their first game, the team has lost their last six games.

Keys to the Game:

–          Minnesota struggled once again last week, rushing for only 65 total yards and committing three turnovers in their loss against Purdue. Quarterback Adam Weber has only been able to find some offense behind his favorite receiver Da’Jon McKnight, who caught six balls for 123 yards last week.

–          Penn State continues to ride out their young quarterback in Bolden, keeping him in while the team is getting abused late in games. Bolden has found some strong chemistry in his junior receiver, Derek Moye. So far, Moye leads the team with 22 receptions for 377 yards and one touchdown. Brett Brackett is right behind him with 21 catches for 292 yards and two touchdowns this season.

–          Minnesota hasn’t looked good all season. It seemed as though things were going to change when they won their season opener against Middle Tennessee, but the team just hasn’t been able to generate any offense and when they do, the defense is getting stomped on. The defense is ranked 98th in the nation, allowing opponents to average 31.7 points this year.

Penn State holds on tight to their 21st ranked defense, which has allowed opponents to average only 18 points against them this season. Rob Bolden has the team averaging 209.2 passing yards per game; expect a few more mistakes from the young quarterback in this meeting. But he should be able to get it together for the team’s fourth win of the season. Look for Penn State’s running game to erupt in Minnesota.
