College Football Pick San Jose State at Nevada 10-9-10

October 5, 2010

San Jose State Spartans at #21 Nevada Wolfpack

Saturday October 9,2010 10:30 PM EST

Line: Nevada -39.5

This matchup features one of the best and one of the worst WAC teams. Speaking of the best, Nevada comes into the game ranked  #21 with a record of 5-0. They get the 1-4 Spartans in both teams first conference matchup. Nevada is coming off a big 44-26 win over in state rival UNLV. San Jose State is coming off an upset loss vs UC Davis last week, 14-13.

The offense for Nevada is what has shocked many people this year. This offense is playing out of their minds scoring 44.6 points a game, 4th best in the nation. They are lead by their 5th ranked rushing attack which has averaged 303 yards a game. Heisman watch will be out on Senior QB Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has flourished this season and has 1,048 passing yards with 7 TDs and 2 Ints. What has been even more impressive is the fact that Kaepernick has rushed for 548 yards with another 9 TDs. Kaepernick can do it all but has been helped by Senior RB Vai Taua. Taua has 641 yards and 8 TDs on the season. The Wolf Pack defense has done their share to holding opponents to 20 points a game, 40th in the nation.

On the other side of the football, the San Jose Spartans have not impressed very much all season. Nevada will be their 4th ranked opponent. The Spartans have played Alabama, Wisconsin, and Utah. 2 of the 3 losses came by an average of 52 points, while they only lost to Wisconsin by 13. The stats back up just how bad the Spartans have been. They are 120th in the nation in points scored with 9.8 points per game. Their defense has allowed an average of 31.2 points per game, 96th in the nation. The offense for San Jose State has been horrible and their Senior QB Jordan La Secla could be out with a rib injury. La Secla leads the Spartans with 735 yards 2 TDs and 3 Ints.

You might want to take a picture of the scoreboard before the game starts if your a Spartan fan. As far as football picks go, this one will never be remotely close. Expect Nevada to take adavantage of a much weaker opponent at home. ¬†Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick should have a huge game. This San Jose State hasn’t been able to stop anybody and have struggled to put up points themselves. Nevada will win big.
