Line: Stanford -3.5

Stanford finished out their season on a 7 game winning streak. Their one loss on the year came at Oregon 52-31. They were 1-1 vs ranked opponents. Virginia Tech lost their first 2 games of the season then went on an 11 game winning streak. They were 3-1 vs ranked opponent, the 3 wins were vs teams outside the top 21.

Stats to consider:

Stanford Cardinals:

  • Stanford is 11-1.
  • Points for per game: 40.3 (8th)
  • Points against per game: 17.8 (11th)
  • Passing yards a game: 256.3 (30th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 211 (17th)

Virginia Tech Hokies:

  • The Hokies are 11-2.
  • Points for per game: 35.5 (19th)
  • Points against per game: 19.1 (15th)
  • Passing yards a game: 202.2 (73rd)
  • Rushing yards a game: 208.9 (18th)

What to watch for:

  • Stanford Junior QB Andrew Luck has thrown for 3,051 yards 28 TDs and 7 Ints. He has rushed for 438 yards and 3 more TDs. If Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh leaves, I would have to believe that this could be the last game in college for Luck.
  • Stanford Sophomore RB Stepfan Taylor has rushed for 1,023 yards and 15 TDs. He has 259 receiving yards and another TD.
  • Hokies Senior QB Tyrod Taylor has thrown for 2,521 yards 23 TDs and 4 Ints. He has rushed for 637 yards and 5 TDs.
  • Hokies Junior RB Darren Evans has rushed for 817 yards and 11 TDs.

This football pick will come down to the more balanced team on offense. Both defenses are very solid as they rank inside the top 20 in scoring. The difference in this game is the QB comparison. Andrew Luck is by far the better passing QB and he also has the better RB. Look for Stanford to be too much.
