October 6, 2010

Syracuse Orange (3-1) vs. South Florida Bulls (3-1)

Saturday, October 9, 2010 12:00PM EST

Line: South Florida -7.5

The Syracuse Orange are coming off a bye week, their last game was a 42-7 win against Colgate. So far the Orange have done a great job taking care of the weaker opponents, but they suffered a 20-41 loss to Jake Locker and Washington in week two. South Florida has also had a solid season this year; their only loss came against Florida, which was also in their second week. The Bulls played last Saturday, coming out with a 31-3 win against Florida Atlantic. They’ve been able to look to their running game and the arm of B.J. Daniels to get their wins.

Keys to the Game:

–          Daniels has had a quiet season so far for the team. His quarterback rating stands at 126.72, and he’s thrown for 560 yards and four touchdowns. When under pressure, he loves to go to his running game, just as he did when he ran for a season-high 107 rushing yards in their loss to Florida.

–          Syracuse can be said to have a solid defensive crew this year. They’ve only allowed opponents to score an average of 16.3 points this season. In their conference opener, they will look to their defensive unit and attributed running game.

–          Ryan Nassib is the junior quarterback for the Orange. So far the junior has thrown for 890 yards and nine touchdowns. His best game was three weeks ago against Maine, where the 6’2’’ quarterback threw for 260 yards and five touchdowns. He also has the help from an efficient running squad.

The Syracuse Orange look to have more of a complete team this season. Their experienced leading running back, Delone Carter has had 73 touches for 419 yards and five touchdowns. The senior ran for 172 yards and four touchdowns in his last game. Look for this to be a tight-knit faceoff, decided by a mere touchdown.
