Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Southern Methodist Mustangs

Line: Southern Methodist -6.5

These two Conference USA teams both bring in 3-2 records into this game. The Mustangs are undefeated, 2-0, in conference. Tulsa is 1-1 in conference and are looking to hand the Mustangs their first conference loss. Tulsa is 1-2 on the road while the Mustangs are 2-1 at home with their one loss to the ranked TCU team 2 weeks ago.

Tulsa’s stats this year have been somewhat surprising. They are 12th in the nation with 39.8 points scored a game. Their passing attack is averaging 291 yards a game which is good for 18th overall. Their rushing game has helped out a bunch as well with 216.8 yards a game, 21st in the nation. The one worry spot for Tulsa is the play of their defense. Their defense has allowed an average of 31.4 points a game which is 98th overall. Leading the Tulsa passing game is Junior QB G.J. Kinne. Kinne has 1,420 yards with 13 TDs and 6 Ints. WR Damarius Johnson has played well this year with 250 receiving yards and 185 rushing yards and 2 TDs.

Southern Methodist has scored a fair amount of points, averaging 31.2 points per game. Their passing game has been a huge reason why they have been so successful. They rank 34th in the nation with 242.4 yards per game. Leading the Mustangs passing attack is Sophomore QB Kyle Padron. Padron has 1,183 yards with 13 TDs and 4 Ints. Padron has shown the ability to run with 159 rushing yards and another TD. Leading the Mustangs rushing attack is Sophomore RB Zach Line who has 460 yarrs with 5 TDs. Line did have an illness last week which limited him to 45 yards, but should be up and ready to go in this one. The Mustangs defense will need to perform at a high level in this one. They are allowing 27 points per game which is 79th in the nation.

Both offenses come into this game looking strong. Both defenses come into this game looking horrible, which makes this a tough football pick. I do like Southern Methodist because in 2 out of the 3 losses Tulsa has on the road, they have allowed an average of 57 points. This game will come down to whose defense shows up and possibly even who gets the ball last. I like the Mustangs at home and think they will get a much better performance out of Zach Line.
