Washington State Cougars at #12 Stanford Cardinals

Saturday October 23, 2010 5:00 PM EST

Line: Stanford -34.5

The good news for Washington State is the fact they have only lost their last two games against ranked Pac-10 opponents by 37 points. The bad news is that they are bringing in a five game losing streak and Stanford had an extra week to prepare for this game. The Cougars are 1-6 with an 0-4 Pac-10 record. Stanford got a big week against USC two weeks ago 37-35, but didn’t cover the line. The Cardinals are 5-1 on the year with a 2-1 Pac-10 record. They are 3-0 at home.

The Cougars have been horrible on defense allowing 40.1 points a game, 118th worst. They haven’t put up many points neither averaging 19.3 points a game, 103rd worst. The Cougars rushing game has really hindered their offense as they average 80.1 yards a game, 116th worst. They have been effective throwing the ball as they average 252.7 yards a game, 31st best. They will need a huge game out of Sophomore QB Jeff Tuel if they want to compete. Tuel has 1,735 yards with 10 TDs and  7 Ints.

Stanford has been decent on defense allowing 23.7 points a game, 58th overall. They have been great on offense scoring 43.3 points a game, 5th best. They have had great balance on offense. The Cardinal passing game is averaging 260.5 yards a game, 29th best. They are rushing for 210.5 yards a game, 23rd best. Heisman Hopeful QB Andrew Luck has thrown for 1,538 yards with 16 TDs and 4 Ints. Luck has also run for 242 yards with another 2 TDs.

Stanford has exceeded expectations this year. Washington State has not been able to do anything positive this year and their record reflects that. This is one of the easiest football picks of the week. Andrew Luck has been great for Stanford this year. Look for Stanford to be very prepared for this game after having an extra week to prepare.
