Oregon State Beavers at Arizona Wildcats

Saturday October 9th, 2010 7:00 PM EST

Line: Arizona -8

The University of Arizona has impressed this season, bringing them to an unprecedented number nine ranking in the nation. Oregon State lost by a touchdown to powerhouse Boise St. and opened up with a loss to TCU. They have not beaten a ranked opponent all year, so the Wildcats are going to be a challenge for them on the road.

Keys to the Game:

  • Any time U of A has won by more than a touchdown, they have held their opponents to under ten. I promise, Oregon State is going to score more than ten. Oregon State’s offense can flat out fly. Brothers Jacquizz and James Rodgers are the centerpieces of their dynamic offense. Arizona has not had to hold off an offensive attack like this one. If Arizona expects their defense to be able to shut the tandem down at out wide or in the backfield, they have another thing coming. It will be interesting to see how the Wildcats handle a little adversity, when their defense does not play as they have.
  • Nick Foles has yet to faulter. He has thrown an interception in each of his first four games this year, but he has complete command of his offense. The pressure hasn’t really been on Foles this year, as the Wildcats haven’t been involved in many close games. It will be interesting to see if Foles makes a crucial error when things get tight. Oregon State is less than impressive on defense. They have allowed 28 points or more in every single game this season. This one should be no different, so Foles can expect to have a great performance on Saturday.
  • The Beavers can win with Ryan Katz playing the way he is. He has a 51.9% completion percentage. I realize this awful, I was hard on him last week. One thing that has proven to be a trend though, is he does not make critical mistakes. He is not a gun slinger. When the defense is not offering anything, he lives to play another down. This explains his low completion percentage, but his zeros in the interception column are also attributed to this mentality. Throwing six touchdowns and no interceptions is a fantastic start to the season. Katz is not their play maker, so playing smart football and limiting turnovers is going to be good enough to win football games.

Wrap up:

This game is going to be won by less than seven. If you have a chance to bet the over, bet the over. Oregon State is always involved in high scoring shootouts. Their games are always fun to watch, though they do not always end up on the winning side of the ball. Don’t expect their defense to make strides this week, but don’t expect Arizona to contain their high powered offense either.
