Virginia Tech Hokies at North Carolina State Wolfpack

October 2nd 2010 3:30 PM EST

Line: Virginia Tech -3 1/2

Virginia Tech definitely has the talent to be favored, but thus far they have not beaten any formidable opponents. They had a close game with Boise St., losing by three in the opener. They followed it up by getting embarrassed by James Madison. Who are the Hokies? I don’t even know if they know the answer to that. North Carolina State comes into the game undefeated. Playing at home and ranked 23rd in the nation, the Wildpack should see their underdog status as a slap in the face.

Keys to the Game:

  • Tyrod Taylor has the ability to go off at any time during this season. When he performs well, he makes everyone around him better. Big, athletic, with incredible leadership, Taylor is THE key to the Hokies having success. As long as Taylor does not play uptight, he is a dangerous play maker. Without question, North Carolina State’s number one priority is going to be containing Taylor.
  • Junior Quarterback Russell Wilson is going to have to outshine Taylor to give his team a shot. This game is going to be tight, so a two minute drill is probably going to come from one of these quarterbacks. If Wilson’s line can keep his jersey clean, he is sure to continue his outstanding season. Throwing 11 touchdowns and one interception is a huge reason his team is 4-0.
  • Virginia Tech is going to need to use their athleticism to counter the balanced attack of N.C. State. Mustafa Greene and Dean Haynes make up the Wolfpack talented backfield. They compliment Wilson’s pass attack, and have a way of making defenses feel uncomfortable. The offense is hitting their stride. If VA Tech isn’t careful, they could get 45 put up on them in a hurry. Just ask Georgia Tech.

Wrap Up:

To say N.C. State is an underdog is disrespectful. I understand Virginia Tech has all the potential and they have under achieved. That is however, no reason to say North Carolina State isn’t going to show up. I think the Wolfpack win this one outright at home. Maybe then people will stop expecting N.C. State to slip up and Virginia Tech faithfuls will realize they have a problem on their hands.
