Kansas Jayhawks (2-2) vs. Baylor Bears (3-1)

Saturday, October 2nd, 12:00 PM EST

Line: Baylor -9

After getting rocked by TCU two weeks ago, Robert Griffin III and Baylor rebounded with a win over Rice. They come in as them favorites in this meeting against the underrated Jayhawks. Kansas sits at a 2-2 record; they’ve suffered embarrassing losses and an impressive win against a ranked Georgia Tech team. Jordan Webb is the freshmen play caller for the Jayhawks, but has shown signs of inconsistency. Baylor has been a great defensive team this season, ranked 30th in points allowed with 16.8 points per game.

Keys to the Games

* Kansas has had a mediocre season so far on offense; they’ve had the ability to share scoring the football with different players. Daymond Patterson hasn’t scored yet for the Jayhawks, but has 266 all-purpose yards for the team. The short, running back/receiver is an integral part of Kansas’ offensive mid-field attack. James Sims is the team’s true running back; so far he has 290 yards out of 53 touches and three touchdowns.

* Robert Griffin III has done a solid job keeping this team together for three wins. He was untouchable in his three wins, throwing for at least 242 yards in those contests. But he showed significant weakness against TCU’s defensive scheme. Still, Griffin didn’t throw an interception in that game and has rebounded nicely against Rice, going 20/28 for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also a running threat; 36 carries, 157 yards, and three touchdowns so far this season.

* Baylor’s receiving unit is a force; Kendall Wright and Josh Gordon are essential in the team’s offense. Wright is an undersized (5’10’’) receiver who leads the team with 17 receptions for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon has caught ten passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Look for Baylor to mix it up with the run and pass against Kansas’ 45th-ranked defensive crew.

Jordan Webb will face a complex defensive scheme that will do everything to frustrate and rattle the quarterback. Therefore Kansas should look to give James Sims more touches in this one. Sims is averaging 5.5 yards with each touch this season. Baylor can’t afford to have a tough time scoring the football in this one, because Kansas will take advantage. Still, the Bears pull through.
