UAB Blazers (1-3) vs. Central Florida Knights (2-2)

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010, 8:00PM EST

Line: Central Florida (UCF) -12.5

In this Conference-USA matchup, both competitors come in to this game after some impressive wins and shameful losses. UCF stand as favorites after dominating wins against Buffalo and South Dakota, while also having a close 28-21 loss against a talented North Carolina State team. Their quarterback situation can appear as a blur, as both Calabrese and Godfrey have received a good amount of playing time. Still, the team claims they’ll go with the scrambling quarterback in Jeffrey Godfrey. UAB holds onto a losing record of 1-3 after nearly grabbing an upset win in overtime against Tennessee in their last game. Their only win was against Troy and it wasn’t by much (34-33), leaving doubts as to whether this team can get it together to save their season.

Keys to the Game:

–          UAB has a primetime receiver in Frantrell Forrest. The 6’2’’ receiver has 17 receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Forrest is looking to rebound after a disappointing season last year. The team has two decent quarterbacks in Bryan Ellis and David Isabelle. Ellis has been getting the load of the snaps, especially in their last close call against Tennessee, but Isabelle makes his appearances also. Isabelle can be both a threat when passing and throwing, as he’s rushed in four touchdowns and currently leads the team in rushing yards with 327.

–          UFC holds on to a strong receiving core and have a running back in Ronnie Weaver. The junior back has only had 35 touches for 205 yards and three touchdowns. He could see the ball more when lined up next to Godfrey, as the team might look to utilize the option. They’re currently ranked 39th in rushing yards per game, averaging 184 yards this season.

–          UAB suffered terrible losses in the beginning of their season, losing to Florida Atlantic and Southern Methodist. These tough losses have driven the team to bounce back, beating Troy and nearly having the gas to beat out Tennessee.

Expect UCF to ride on the wings of Jeffrey Godfrey when seeking their third win. UAB seems to like Bryan Ellis as their quarterback for this game, so we should them to continue looking at their leading receiver in Forrest. UCF also possess a reliable receiving crew in Guyton and Watters, they should be able to open up a notable lead.
