(16) Miami Hurricanes (2-1) vs. Clemson Tigers (2-1)

Saturday, October 2nd, 12:00 PM EST

Line: Miami Hurricanes 3 1/2

The Miami Hurricanes enter an important and tough matchup against the Clemson Tigers this weekend. While it’s still kind of early, the winner of this game could very well decide who will make a serious run at the ACC championship this season. The Tigers had a bye week to prepare for this game, after suffering a gut-wrenching loss against Auburn. Last time these two teams met up, Clemson quarterback, Kyle Parker had an easy time airing the ball out with 220 passing yards. This time around it could be much different, Parker will deal with a Hurricane defense that is much faster and stronger than previous years.

Keys to the Games

* The Miami defense is much more improved than last year. They’ve shut out Florida A&M, 45-0 in their season opener and have recently pummeled Pittsburgh’s offense, 31-3 last week. They’re ranked 11th in the nation, allowing opponents to average only 13 points against them so far this season. Clemson will need to follow the paths of Ohio State, who steamrolled this ‘Cane defense two week ago, giving Miami their first only loss 36-24.

* With six interceptions already this season, Jacory Harris will be looking to avoid hurting the team with his turnovers. The slim gunslinger has already thrown for 690 yards this season, with six touchdowns throws. His throwing yards have been increasing with each game, last week’s romp over Pitt let Harris finish with 248 passing yards. The team should also look towards their running back, Damien Berry, The senior, who’s on the verge for a breakout game, has only 226 rushing yards in 43 touches.

* Markeith Summers was a ghost for Clemson’s offense in their last game against Fresno State, catching no balls in his last game against Fresno State. Summers does lead the team in receptions with 10, for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kyle Parker will need to stick the credible passing game he’s had this season. The sophomore does have six touchdowns and only one interception this season, with a QB rating of 158.42. In Clemson’s close loss to Auburn last week, Parker played a decent game, throwing two touchdowns, no interceptions, and going 20/34 for 220 passing yards. He will need to hold on to this form, as Clemson will need it to help topple over Miami’s defense,

Miami holds a potent defense, strong passing game, but suffer in their running game. Clemson will look to build off Parker’s play. He’s been a silent murderer for this offense and if Miami doesn’t hassle him quickly, he could gain some confidence in the pocket to throw some precise bullets. Miami should be able to make some big plays on defense though, and hold on to their momentum after shutting down Dion Lewis and Pitt last week.
