Northwestern Wildcats (4-0) vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-3)

Saturday, October 2nd, 12:00 PM EST

Line: Northwestern -5 1/2

In this Big Ten showdown, Northwestern will look to protect their undefeated record against Minnesota. The Wildcats have had a relatively easier schedule than Minnesota, pulling away with close wins against Vanderbilt and Central Michigan before heading into this important conference game. Minnesota has lost their last three games, but will look to their senior quarterback, Adam Weber to help spoil the Wildcat’s successful season.
Keys to the Games
* Northwestern is ranked 27th in the nation in passing yards, averaging 270 yards a game behind the arm of their quarterback, Dan Persa. The senior has thrown for 1,049 yards and eight touchdowns so far, carrying a stellar QB rating of 186.34. His only interception came last week against Central Michigan, where he threw 280 yards and two touchdowns to help boost their record to 4-0.
* Despite their losing record, Minnesota has faced a tougher schedule than Northwestern prior to this meeting. The team has a few options on offense; a workhorse running back in Duane Bennett and a steady receiving core. MaQueis Gray has been the beneficiary receiver for Minnesota up to this point. The 6’4’’ soph has 22 receptions for 328 yards and three touchdowns so far. In their 32-23 loss against Northern Illinois, Gray caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
* Minnesota also has a decent running back in Duane Bennett, the junior has 371 yards in 79 touches this season. He has two touchdowns and should see the ball more in this one if quarterback, Adam Weber has trouble in the pocket. Weber held on to his starting job this season, and has had an up-and-down season.
