Washington Huskies at Arizona Wildcats

Saturday October 23rd, 2010 10:15 PM EST

Line: Arizona -6 1/2

Overview:

The 3-3 Washington Huskies have been inconsistent the entire season. After beating USC, they dropped a game against ASU and followed it up by beating Oregon State. The Wildcats have been more consistent, going 5-1 with their only loss coming against Oregon State. The game is in Arizona, which will not bode well for the Huskies.

Keys to the Game:

  • Jake Locker might have all of the Pro scouts drooling, but he has been less than impressive this year, at least until he played Oregon State. Locker threw for five touchdowns and only had one interception after struggling the entire year. He has been off target all season long, but put it together last week to knock off the Oregon State Beavers. If he can put together that type of performance against the Wildcats, he gives Washington a fighting chance.
  • The leading passer in the Pac-10, Nick Foles, is out after sustaining an injury against Washington State. Matt Scott will be under center and he will try to duplicate the performance Foles has put on all season long. The U of A offense relies heavily on playing effective, stingy defense and having a quarterback that plays lights out. If Scott struggles, so will the Wildcats. They may look to their running game more than they have all this season, but they are a passing team first and foremost. The Huskies know the challenges the U of A offense faces. They are going to throw everything they have at Scott, which will undoubtedly fluster him. He has the experience, he just might not have the arm to get it done.

Wrap Up:

While I like the Wildcats this season, they can’t win without Foles. They will have the support of their home crowd, so they might sneak away with a victory in this match up. They will need Foles to come back as soon as he is physically able to. The Washington Huskies are doing their best Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde impression. Depending on which Huskies team shows up, the Huskies may put themselves in a position to come away with a win. I think the Huskies will lose but cover in this one, barely.
