Washington Huskies at Oregon Ducks

Saturday November 6th, 2010 3:30 PM EST

Line: Oregon -36 1/2

Overview:

The 8-0 Oregon Ducks are number one in the country and rightfully so. They have dominated every single opponent on their schedule by at least twenty, with the exception of their 11 point victory over Arizona St. The Huskies, on the other hand, have made being blown out a recent habit. After getting a signature double overtime win against Oregon St., Washington has been blown out twice in a row. With one team rolling over everyone in their path and another at their lowest point in the season, this could be ugly.

Keys to the Game:

  • Washington isn’t going to be able to control LaMichael James. James has already racked up 1210 yards this season. He has posted at least 100 yards on six occasions this season, topping 200 yards three times. He is not going to see much resistance this week and can expect to run for over 200 yards. James is a home run threat and nobody has had an answer for him all season long.
  • Jake Locker broke his rib, so he won’t be playing on Saturday. Locker is one of the most heralded quarterbacks in the nation, so this is a huge blow to the Huskies, not that they needed one. Oregon is solid against the pass and the run, so keep backup quarterback Keith Price in your thoughts and prayers as he takes on the number one team in the country. He is mobile and can move around in the pocket, which may delay the Oregon pass rush and give him enough time to at least throw the ball away.
  • Chris Polk has big time potential, but he was nowhere to be found last week. While he has shown flashes of brilliance coming out of Washington’s backfield, he has also gone AWOL at times. Last week, he averaged 1.3 yards on 17 carries. If he wants to give Washington a fighting chance, he is going to have to make something out of nothing frequently. The Oregon defense is expecting the Huskies to go to Polk in the absence of Locker. This could make him a priority for the Oregon defense.

Wrap Up:

The Huskies started out looking solid for the most part, but have regressed into what they are today. While it isn’t usually easy to say a team is going to lose by such a large margin, it is in this case. The Ducks want to bring a championship to Eugene and they have been torching every team in their path all season long. The Huskies are a victim of circumstance and Jake Locker picked a bad week to be injured.
