Golden State Warriors at Detroit Pistons

Sunday November 7th, 2010 6:00 PM EST

Line: Golden State -1

The Golden State Warriors have jumped out to a hot start, going 4-1 in the first five games. All four wins came at home, so it will be interesting to see if they can get it done against a struggling Pistons team, who has posted a 1-5 record thus far.

Keys to the Game:

  • David Lee has been the difference for the Warriors. Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis are having amazing years, but that comes as no surprise. The problem with the Warriors over the years is that after they score, they would be just as effective sitting on the bench when they are on defense. David Lee and first year coach Keith Smart have changed all that. Lee is a force in the middle. He makes the defense less soft when going up against teams that rely on their big men. At 6’9, Lee also overachieves on the boards, grabbing just over 12 a game.
  • Rodney Stuckey is back at the point for the Pistons. It’s a good thing too, as Stuckey is a huge asset for the Pistons, contributing more than his 15.2 points a game might say. Stuckey blatantly ignored head coach John Kuester in a game against the Atlanta Hawks, earning him a spot on the bench in the last game. The Pistons will enjoy the services of their assist leader against Golden State, who Stuckey has had success against in the past.
  • The Pistons can’t crumble before the season gets started. A feud between Stuckey and Kuester is not a way to begin the season. This is not the same Pistons team we are accustomed to seeing. Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, and Rip Hamilton had a nice run, but Hamilton is the lone member of the crew that were a huge force in the East for years. They need to regather themselves, as they could grow accustomed to losing in a hurry as an organization.

Wrap Up:

The Warriors are going to be too much too often for the Pistons. Aside from a few heavy hitters in the West, the Warriors could easily be considered one of the most feared teams in the conference. They have always put up a huge amount of points, but now that they have a new emphasis on defense, the Warriors are a complete basketball team. They will cover easily in this one.
