New Jersey Nets at Miami Heat

Saturday November 6th, 2010 7:30 EST

Line: Miami – 17

The Miami Heat have quickly become one of the most hated and talked about teams in sports history. They have three players who were on the Olympic team and sell out crowds everywhere they go. At 4-2, they will look to knock off the 2-3 New Jersey Nets, but by 17?

Keys to the Game:

  • The Heat are at home. In every road game the Heat attend this year, they will be launched into a playoff basketball atmosphere. The hostile is abundant and fans are relentless, just because of who they are. At home, the Heat are still in a playoff atmosphere, but it’s like having home court advantage in game seven of the finals. Miami fans are thinking championship and it is showing when the Heat are in Miami. They are 2-0 at home this season. A 17 point margin of victory would be their smallest home win of the season.
  • The Nets were embarrassed in their last matchup against the Heat, losing by 23. The odd thing is, none of the super stars really had a huge game. James had 20 points and 7 assists, but to be blown out by 23 at home, you would think there would be someone that was really on target. What made the game a blowout was the Nets’ inability to score. They only put up 78 points, a total that is not going to even flirt with victory when plaing the Miami Heat.
  • The Heat have the potential to burn out quickly. I’ve heard people in the Heat organization say Udonis Haslem is the heart and soul of the team, but that is all propaganda. The Heat have three guys that can get it done. They have limited depth and when all three of their players are on the bench, nearly every team in the NBA has the upper hand. The key is to not allow a snowball effect to occur when all three are on the court. The Heat are not built like the Lakers, so when Mario Chalmers and Eddie House are the best players on the floor, the Heat are vulnerable.
  • The Nets did a good enough job last time they played MiamiĀ  defensively to cover, now it’s time for the offense to step up. The Key to that could be Anthony Morrow, who is one of the best outside shooters in all of basketball. When Morrow gets hot, he has the potential to put up huge numbers. They put up an average of around 91 points a game. If they can obtain that and hold Miami defensively, they should be able to cover.

Wrap Up:

The Heat are the best defensive team in the NBA at the moment. While 17 points is a huge spread, I can’t rely on the Nets offensively to get anything going. I think the Heat are vastly overrated, but I have to go with them here.
