Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Lakers

Sunday November 14th, 2010 9:30 PM EST

Line: Los Angeles -9

The Lakers are 8-1 and boast an undefeated 6-0 record. The Suns are an unimpressive 4-4. The Lakers suffered their first loss in their last outing against Denver. Acquiring a loss was inevitable, but don’t look for the Lakers to make losing a habit.

Keys to the Game:

  • The Suns are lacking a dominant force on the boards. Grant Hill leads the Suns with 6.5 rebounds a game. While rebounding by committee can be effective, the Suns need to have their big men get more aggressive. The Lakers are very unforgiving in their front court, so the Suns need to make hustle plays and make rebounding a priority. Giving the Lakers second chances will spell defeat.
  • Kobe Bryant is going to toy with the Suns. The Lakers have the best offense in the entire league and the Suns are third worst in the league on defense, allowing 107 points a game. Bryant is the best shooting guard in the NBA. The Suns no longer have Raja Bell to play solid defense against Bryant and guarding him is too much to ask from anyone on their roster.
  • Like every game, the Suns have the best shot at winning if they get in a fast break shoot out. The second they start playing the Lakers style of basketball, the game is over. Jason Richardson and Steve Nash will be instrumental to the tempo of the offense. The Lakers can run with the Suns to a certain extent, but the Suns need to make sure they are going full tilt the entire game.

Wrap Up:

The Suns are a team who will continue to struggle until they start rebounding and playing defense. Nobody in the league, with the exception of the Warriors, has the ability to run with the Suns. The Lakers will likely dominate the boards and Kobe Bryant should have a huge game. As good as the Suns are on offense, I can’t help but think they lose by nine.
