Toronto Raptors at Miami Heat

Saturday November 13th 2010 7:30 PM EST

Line: Miami -18

Many people started talking about the possibility of the win record being broken. Now people are starting to realize that despite being littered with All-Stars, the Heat are just another basketball team in the NBA. At 5-4, the Heat will look to make a statement against a struggling 2-7 Toronto Raptors team.

Keys to the Game:

  • Chris Bosh is facing his old team. This is significant for both sides. While it would be a bigger story line if Bosh were going into Toronto, there is always something extra in a game where a player faces his old team. The Raptors will be looking to come away with a win to show Bosh he didn’t cripple the franchise and Bosh will want to show his former teammates what they missed out on. Though Bosh left on good terms, the stakes are raised for him.
  • If there is a chink in Miami’s armor, it is their lack of a dominant center. The Raptors Andrea Bargnani has quickly become their best asset, leading the team in scoring. What makes the center so good is his versatility. He is 7’0 tall and he shoots .478 from three land on the season. His play likens that of Dirk Nowitski.
  • Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all play too many minutes. James expressed his concerns to slam magazine after the Celtics game. In his last two games, he has exceeded 44 minutes of playing time. The Heat lack depth and will need their super stars to have monster games in order to come away with victories. That being said, this is the begninning of the season. If they ware their super stars out before the season even gets started, they won’t be able to compete down the stretch. The best teams in the NBA have depth. The Heat have none. Until they can find talent on their bench, they won’t be breaking any win records.

Wrap Up:

I’m not ready to jump on the Heat band wagon. They are loaded with talent, but that talent is short lived. Who is going to step up and be the force off the bench the Heat so desperately need? The Heat have suffered back to back losses at home. Their fans are growing restless, but with players already being drowned with minutes, will the Heat really look to make a statement against the Raptors at the expense of their most valuable assets?
