Miami Heat (0-1) v. Philadelphia 76ers (0-0)

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 7:00PM EST

Line: Miami -7.5

Overview:

The Miami Heat will travel to Philadelphia to face off against the young Sixers after coming off a sloppy loss to the Boston Celtics. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade both showed signs of limited playing time together, as both players committed a combined total of 14 turnovers in the loss. James also took care of most of the scoring load for the team, hanging 31 points. The Sixers are looking for a fresh start to their season behind their new coach Doug Collins. Collins eyes his trust behind Iguodala and Holliday as the Sixers open their season against a secretly angry Miami Heat squad.

Keys to the Game:

–          Doug Collins has had his immediate impact for the Sixers outlook this season. Collins has decided to let Elton Brand and Spencer Hawes start for Philadelphia’s front court. He will also have talent in his bench with Louis Williams, Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner all coming off the bench this season. Marreese Speights can’t be forgotten either, the 6’10’’ big-man averaged 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game with only an average of 16.4 minutes per game.

–          While LeBron did a solid job keeping Miami close in the closing parts of the game, the team’s overall defense late in the game wasn’t there. Wade couldn’t have looked any colder, shooting 4/16 and committing six turnovers. Bosh wasn’t at his top form, but showed some signs of efficiency throughout the game.

–          The Heat will continue to build off the play of their role-players in James Jones, Udonis Haslem and Eddie House until the team finds a reliable rhythm together. Expect them to slow the pace down more in Philadelphia, and have the time to pick apart Philly’s young defense.

Game Forecast:

Philadelphia has definite holes on defense, especially with Jason Kapono starting as their small forward. While it’ll let the Sixers spread the floor on offense, the Miami Heat will have no problem finding mismatches in the half court game. The Sixers will continue the streaky style of play that they’ve had all preseason, but if the team’s help defense doesn’t show up, this one could get ugly fast.
