Line: Oklahoma City -6

The fresh new NBA season kicks off for both Chicago and Oklahoma City in this meeting. Both teams are coming off impressive runs in the postseason and are looking to make the leap to become title contenders this season. For Chicago, Derrick Rose is looking to become one of the elite guards in the league. The Thunder suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Lakers last year in the playoffs and will look to rebound behind their emerging young stars in Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green.

Keys to the Game:

–          Derrick Rose is ready for his breakout season, the 22-year-old averaged 20.8 points and six assists last year. He will now be able to find a running-mate on offense with newly-acquired Carlos Boozer. Boozer has been a 20-and-10 player for most of his career, and he’ll be alongside Joakim Noah.

–          Kevin Durant will be ready to continue his successful play from the summer. The 22-year-old averaged 30.1 points, and 2.8 assists per game last season. The 6’9’’ swing-man also led his team with rebounds last season, averaging 7.6 boards a game. He should also see some more help around the glass with the newly acquired rookie, Cole Aldrich, a 6’11’’ center from Kansas.

–          The Thunder will look to see more help from their efficient bench crew. James Harden averaged 9.9 points, 1.8 assists and shot .375 from the three point-line last season. New additions in Morrison Peterson, Daequan Cook and Royal Ivey should support the solid role-play throughout the season.

Game Forecast:

Chicago has plenty of offensive options this year, Loul Deng bounced back from his injuries to play 70 games last season, averaging 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds. He should be able to disturb Oklahoma City’s weak rebounding unit. Expect Durant and Westbrook to strike hard and often throughout the game, with the combination of Rose and Boozer doing what they can to keep up. The Thunder will begin their 10-11 campaign with a big win at home.
