Los Angeles Lakers (1-0) v. Phoenix Suns (0-1)

Friday, October 29th, 2010 10:30PM EST

Line: Los Angeles -5

Overview:

The Suns began their season with an uncharacteristic loss. Steve Nash has been eye different sources of offense since the departure of Stoudemire last summer. Nash did find some offense from his shoot guard in Jason Richardon, who scored 22 points in the team’s loss against Portland. The Lakers ran into some serious competition against Houston on Tueday, but were able to squeeze out a 2-point win.

Keys to the Game:

–          Pau Gasol scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Kobe Bryant was able to put up 27 points along with 7 dimes. The Lakers saw critical help from their bench players in Shannon Brown and Steve Blake, both had a combined total of 26 points in the team’s first game.

–          Steve Nash was forced to play a bigger role for the Suns in the scoring department in their last game, and it looks like he’ll see more shots come his way this year. The 14-year vet logged in 35 minutes in his first game, and scored 26 points for Phoenix’s offense.

–          Lamar Odom is enjoying the steady playing time in Los Angeles. The forward scored 14 points and nabbed 10 boards in the team’s win. The Lakers’ other forward, Ron Artest struggled from the field, shooting 3-15.

Forecast:

In a rematch of the Western Conference Finals, both of these teams will look to be in a heated matchup against each other. The Suns will look to find better production from their newcomers in Turkoglu and Childress, but the role-players are the key to their success. Los Angeles has looked good despite the absence of Bynum. Look for the Lakers to sneak pass for their second win against the Suns.
