NBA Pick Chicago at Houston 11-16-10

Chicago Bulls at Houston Rockets

Tuesday November 16, 2010 8:30 PM EST

Line: Houston -1.5

The Rockets got off to a horrible start, losing their first 5 games. Since then they are 3-1 and playing much better basketball. The Bulls are fresh off a 3 game home sweep. They do not have a win on the road, but the loses were at Boston and at Oklahoma City.

Stats to consider:

Chicago Bulls:

  • The Bulls are 5-3
  • They are 0-2 on the road.
  • Points against per game: 100.4 (13th)
  • Points scored per game: 105 (5th)
  • Rebounds a game: 44.5 (4th)
  • Assists per game: 23.8 (4th)

Houston Rockets:

  • Houston is 3-6
  • They are 1-2 at home, with loses vs Denver and New Orleans
  • Points against per game: 107.7 (29th)
  • Points for per game: 107.7 (4th)
  • Rebounds a game: 45.6 (3rd)
  • Assists per game: 22.4 (8th)

What to watch for:

  • The Bulls have under the radar gotten their own big 3. Derrick Rose leads the team in scoring with 23.6 PPG. He also leads the team with 9.5 APG. SF Luol Deng has averaged 20.3 PPG and 5.6 RPG. C Joakim Noah has averaged 16.5 PPG 13.3 RPG and 2 BPG. This team will be scary when Carlos Boozer returns.
  • The Bulls have another player with 10+ PPG. F Taj Gibson is averaging 14.3 PPG and 6.4 RPG. In only his second year, Gibson is proving to be a reliable scorer.
  • The Rockets also have two players averaging 20 + PPG. SG Kevin Martin is averaging 24.1 PPG with 3.3 APG. PF Luis Scola is averaging 22.1 PPG with 10.8 RPG.
  • Rockets PG Aaron Brooks has only played in 5 games this season due to an ankle injury and could be out 4-6 weeks. Brooks leads the team in assists with 5.4 APG and also has contributed 16.4 PPG.

Sports picks are mostly determined by the home team. I think the Rockets are a better team than what their record reflects. The injuries of C Yao Ming and PG Aaron Brooks really hurts the Rockets chances in this one. The one difference between the two teams is defense. The Bulls are 13th in points against while the Rockets are 29th. Expect the Bulls to be too much on offense and defense for the Rockets.
