Dallas Mavericks at Orlando Magic

Tuesday December 21, 2010 7:00 PM EST

Line: Orlando -3.5

The Mavericks are fresh off a big win at Miami 98-96 to snap the 12 game winning streak the Heat had. They bring in a 3 game winning streak of their own. The Magic have lost 3 straight and now are going to have to find their new identity after acquiring Hedo Turkuglu and Gilbert Arenas.

Stats to consider:

Dallas Mavericks:

  • Dallas is 22-5 with a 9-1 road record.
  • Points per game: 99.1 (16th)
  • Points allowed per game: 93.3 (5th)
  • Rebounds per game: 42.5 (6th)
  • Assists per game: 23.6 (5th)

Orlando Magic:

  • Orlando is 16-11 with a 9-4 home record.
  • Points per game: 96 (22nd)
  • Points allowed per game: 92.8 (4th)
  • Rebounds per game: 42.2 (10th)
  • Assists per game: 18.2 (29th)

What to watch for:

  • For the Mavericks, PF Dirk Nowitzki is once again having an MVP season. He leads the team with 24.8 PPG and is also posting 7.6 RPG and 2.3 APG. PG Jason Kidd continues to share the ball with a team leading 8.7 APG and also has 1.7 SPG. The biggest change for the Mavs has been C Tyson Chandler who leads the team with 9.2 RPG.
  • C Dwight Howard is the man for the Magic. He leads the team with 21.6 PPG and 12.8 RPG. He also leads the team with 1.2 SPG and 2.3 BPG. The Magic traded away Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis who were both in the top 4 in scoring for the team. PG Jameer Nelson will need to step up with the departures of these players. Nelson has 14.7 PPG and leads the team with 7.1 APG.

Trades always factor into sports picks. Orlando maybe got in a practice before tonights game, but that still isn’t enough time for these new comers to gel. The Mavs are no joke this year and have played tough on the road. Orlando has struggled as of late, and those struggles should continue vs a very tough Dallas team.
