Orlando Magic at Denver Nuggets

Tuesday December 14, 2010 9:00 PM EST

Line: Orlando -1.5

Orlando snapped a 4 game losing streak Sunday at the Clippers 94-85. The Nuggets have lost 3 of their last 4, although all 4 were on the road. The Nuggets only have one loss at home this season.

Stats to consider:

Orlando Magic:

  • Orlando is 16-8 with a 7-5 road record.
  • Points per game: 97 (21st)
  • Points allowed per game: 91.9 (3rd)
  • Rebounds per game: 42.3 (9th)
  • Assists per game: 18.2 (29th)

Denver Nuggets:

  • The Nuggets are 14-9 with a 10-1 home record.
  • Points per game: 106.7 (3rd)
  • Points allowed per game: 104;9 (23rd)
  • Rebounds per game: 41.3 (18th)
  • Assists per game: 21.1 (15th)

What to watch for:

  • Magic C Dwight Howard leads the team with 21.5 PPG, 12 RPG, 1.1 SPG, and 2.4 BPG. He has been huge for the Magic this year and looks like he could be going for a 3-peat for the Defensive player of the year award. Howard can’t do it alone and will need PG Jameer Nelson to keep elevating his game. Nelson leads the team with 7.2 APG and is also putting up 14.9 PPG.
  • For the Nuggets, disgruntled SF Carmelo Anthony leads the team with 23.1 PPG and 8.2 RPG. The biggest key for the Nuggets in this one is the play of C Nene Hilario. Nene is averaging 15.5 PPG, 2nd, and is averaging 7 RPG which is also 2nd on the team.

This is a tough basketball pick no doubt. The Magic seem to have the advantage with Dwight Howard, but the Nuggets have a huge advantage with Carmelo Anthony plus the fact that they are at home. The Magic are getting over a series of sickness that went around which could play a factor. The fact that the Nuggets only have 1 home loss, I have to go with them. Carmelo could stop playing hard for the Nuggets because he wants to get traded, but he is a competitor and wants to beat the best.
