NBA Pick San Antonio at L.A. 2-3-11

February 3, 2011

San Antonio Spurs at L.A. Lakers

Thursday February 3, 2011 10:30 PM EST

Line: L.A. -3

The Spurs started their 9 game road stand with a loss at Portland 99-86 on Tuesday. They did beat the Lakers earlier in the year in San Antonio 97-82. The Lakers stopped their 2 game losing streak with a win over Houston 114-106 in OT on Tuesday. They need to come up with a big win at home before they go on a  7 game road stand.

Stats to consider:

San Antonio Spurs:

  • The Spurs are 40-8 with a 15-6 road record.
  • Points per game: 104 (6th)
  • Points allowed per game: 96.9 (12th)
  • Rebounds per game: 42.7 (9th)
  • Assists per game: 23 (6th)

L.A. Lakers:

  • The Lakers are 34-15 with a 19-7 home record.
  • Points per game: 103.7 (7th)
  • Points allowed per game: 96.8 (11th)
  • Rebounds per game: 44.1 (3rd)
  • Assists per game: 22.1 (10th)

What to watch for:

  • The Spurs are lead by their big 3. SG Manu Ginobli leads the team with 18.8 PPG and is 2nd with 4.8 APG. PG Tony Parker is 2nd with 17.3 PPG and leads the team with 6.8 APG. C Tim Duncan is 3rd with 13.6 PPG and leads the team with 9.4 RPG.
  • Everyone knows the Lakers are lead by SG Kobe Bryant who leads the team with 25.6 PPG and 4.9 APG. PF Pau Gasol leads the team with 10.6 RPG and is 2nd with 18.4 PPG. The key to the game will be the play of SF Ron Artest who has really struggled lately. He is averaging 8.1 PPG and has scored under 10 points in the Lakers last 4 games.

This basketball pick is tricky because the Lakers are 4-4 in their last 4 games. There is also a lot of talk of the Lakers possibly going out and making a trade. Rumors leaked out that Ron Artest wanted out, then they were claimed false. Kobe called out Pau earlier in the week, so this should be a great matchup between the top 2 teams in the Western Conference.
