Cincinnati Bengals at Carolina Panthers

Sunday September 26th, 2010 1 PM EST

The Line: Cincinnati Bengals -3 1/2

The Bengals and the Panthers both struggled week one. The Bengals redeemed themselves by beating the Ravens in week two. The Panthers dug themselves an even bigger hole by getting embarrassed by the Buccaneers. Both teams are still eager to prove their worth.

The Bengal Offense has been impressive so far. Their biggest malfunction right now is that Carson Palmer is not playing to his full potential. For whatever reason, even when protection has been good, his throws have been slightly off target on multiple occasions. This is uncharacteristic of Palmer, who usually has deadly accuracy. As odd as it may seem, this is great for the Bengals. Palmer has a great work ethic, and whatever problems he is having now, he will surely fix as the season progresses. It is scary to think what is going to happen when he gets on the same page as Terrell Owens. Bengal wide out Chad Ochocinco is second in the NFL in receiving with 203 yards in two games. A compliment on the other side combined with Cedric Benson in the backfield could make them one of the most feared offenses in the entire league.

The Panthers, who have a highly touted running back tandem in Jonathan Stewart and Deangello Williams, have struggled early on. Williams amassed only 51 yards on 27 carries against the Bucs last week. With a quarterback controversy brewing in Carolina, it’s going to be up to the ground game to give the Panthers some stability. The Bengals put up 15 points on the Ravens last week. Judging by the bear down the Panthers received, Cincinnati could put up an impressive amount of points. This is the worst defense the Bengals have seen all year, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Bengals have two wide receivers with 100+ yard days. If Jimmy Clause has to get in a shootout with Carson Palmer, the Panthers have no chance of success. I agree with the decision to bench Matt Moore, but Clausen isn’t in a position to win.Easy call.
