Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens

Sunday September 26th, 1:00 PM EST

Line: Baltimore -12

The AFC North is one of the most physical divisions in all of football. The Browns are an aberration. The lowly Browns have kept their games competitive, but bad teams seem to always find a way to lose. The Ravens lost to the division rival Bengals last week and are looking to redeem themselves. Breaking the Browns’ spirit is going to be item number one on their Sunday agenda.

Keys to the Games

  • Ray Lewis is upset. Clearly the Ravens have some built up rage after last week’s loss. Look for the Ravens to try to intimidate the Browns by playing physical football early. The Browns are a team that is easy to frazzle. The Ravens are going to try to bully the Browns into a frenzy. The Ravens are a top five defense and the Browns are a bottom five offense, so the match up there should not bode well for Cleveland.
  • T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Anquan Boldin need to show why they were brought in. Joe Flacco threw a pick last week that was the product of Boldin loafing on a route. Boldin has a great work ethic and sells out on every play, so this was uncharacteristic. If Flacco’s targets start to make solid short catches that move the chains, their offense could turn the corner. The Ravens will always be a defensive team, but eating up the clock and keeping the defense on the sideline needs to be a collective effort. Ray Rice can’t do everything.
  • This game is going to be low scoring. The Ravens have only put up ten points in each of their first two games. Granted, the Browns defense is not the caliber of the Bengals or the Jets. The Ravens just don’t look to destroy teams on the scoreboard. They are a physical, grind it out team that likes to limit turnovers and use the clock to their advantage.
  • Josh Cribbs is becoming a better receiver. As Cribbs gets more comfortable in his role as a true NFL receiver, his production will go up. He is already one of the most versatile players in the league. Any time he has the ball in his hands, he has a chance to break one. The Browns decided to always put the ball in his hands. He is Mr. Everything, lining up as a quarterback, kick returner, punt returner, and wide receiver all in the same game.

I think the Browns will put up around ten points on the Ravens. Betting the Ravens on the money line is a lock in this one, but the Ravens winning by 11 is too big of a spread. I think the Browns will score at ten points. I can’t see the Ravens putting up more than 21.
