Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

Sunday September 26th, 2010 1 PM EST

The Line: Minnesota -11

These are two very different 0-2 teams. The Lions came into the season hoping to win a few games and improve their personnel. The Vikings came into the season gunning for a world championship. Regardless of their goals, both are defeated to this point.

The Vikings miss Sydney Rice. It’s clear that Brett Favre is struggling without his number one receiver. Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrianare excellent additions to Rice, but they do not have a go to guy at this point. Adrian Peterson has the ability to put the entire offense on his back and carry his team to a victory, but last week even 145 yards on the ground weren’t enough to come away with a W.

The Vikings were rumored to have interest in acquiring Vincent Jackson, but no moves were made. The Vikings are struggling to find an identity while they try to duplicate last year’s offense. Brett Favre has returned to his New York Jets form. It is clear the Vikings are one dimensional, once again. They are going to have to prove they can throw the ball effectivelyso that teams don’t load up eight players in the box. Respect for the passing game is going to make Peterson’s life a lot easier. There is no doubt that the Vikings have the potential to be an elite team in the NFL, but they need to stop trying to be what they were last year and go back to their roots. When Adrian Peterson is doing well, the Vikings can compete with anyone. They need use the passing game as a change of pace, rather than rely on it a the main part of their offense.

The Lions were robbed in week one. Calvin Johnson made a great game game winning catch, but it was ruled incomplete due to a technicality. The Lions looked good on offense last week, putting up 32 points on the Eagles. Rookie JahvidBest leads the NFL with four rushing touchdowns. Shaun hill took over the job for injured Matthew Stafford. He had a career day and amassed 335 yards and two touchdowns.

If the Lions can continue to have success on offense, the Vikings could easily find themselves in a ball game. The Lions have been competitive to say the least in each of their first two games. Being an underdog is something the Lions are all too familiar with. I think 11 points is too big of a spread here.
