New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

September 26th, 2010 8:20 PM EST

Line: Miami -2 1/2

The Dolphin are undefeated and the Jets come into this game with only one loss, to the Ravens. With the Jets having an interesting week, it would be easy for them to use their off the field issues as an excuse. That just isn’t how the Jets operate though, is it?

Keys to the Game

  • The Jets need to find a way to stop Brandon Marshall without Darrelle Revis in the lineup. Marshall is being thrown at, and thrown at often. The Dolphins have looked like a some what traditional NFL offense. Marshall is probably the reason for the change of heart. After losing Revis to a hamstring injury, the Jets won’t be able to put Marshall on Revis Island and forget about him. The Dolphins don’t have many threats at receiver, but Marshall could have a big game. Anquan Boldin showed Antonio Cromartie struggles against big physical receivers, so he is going to need help.
  • Ladanian Tomlinson has to get the ball while Braylon Edwards is on the bench. L.T. looks like he may have returned to form. Everyone expected Shonne Greene to come in and take over the feature back position, but so far it has been all Tomlinson. By giving the ball to one of the best backs in NFL history, you allow Mark Sanchez to forget that his favorite target is not in the game.
  • The Jets are going to rally around each other. Just what the Jets needed, more distractions. In a team that has soap opera story lines, a DWI and pulled hamstring aren’t going to have a crippling affect. It is business as usual and the Jets will find a way to put a positive spin on it. They proved they could play well without Revis against the Patriots. Braylon Edwards won’t be out the entire game. Even though they are in disarray, it is not a Cowboys sort of disarray. Regardless of the off the field issues, the Jets all support each other. With the exception of Revis’ holdout, an act of perceived selfishness is rarely seen on the Jets.
  • The Dolphins aren’t going to be able to run the ball against the Jets. No hard feelings, nobody has been able to really run the ball against the Jets. Ray Rice is a better running back than Ronnie Brown and the Jets held him considerably well. If Miami tries to run at last year’s number one defense, Rex Ryan will answer.

I understand the Jets are going through some things off the field, but aren’t they always. The Dolphins have played well, but I think it is about time the team suffered a loss. They beat the struggling Vikings and the pitiful Buffalo Bills, but this Jets team is a different beast. The Jets win outright despite their issues.
