Pittsburgh Panthers at UConn Huskies

Thursday November 11, 2010 7:30 PM EST

Line: Pittsburgh -5.5

Both of these Big East teams had an extra week to prepare for this one. Pittsburgh comes into this game trying to stay dominant in the Big East as they are 3-0. UConn is looking at the possibility of going over .500 on the season and getting to .500 in the Big East as they are 4-4 on the season with a 1-2 Big East record.

Stats to consider:

Pittsburgh Panthers:

  • The Panthers are 5-3 with a 3-0 Big East record.
  • They are 1-2 on the road.
  • Points against per game: 19 (20th)
  • Points for per game: 29 (53rd)
  • Passing yards a game: 214.5 (64th)
  • Rushing yards a game: 156.3 (56th)

UConn Huskies:

  • The Huskies are 4-4 with a 1-2 Big East record.
  • They are 4-0 at home this season.
  • Points against per game: 21.4 (38th)
  • Points for per game: 26.6 (66th)
  • Passing yards a game: 163.8 (102nd)
  • Rushing yards a game: 174.8 (38th)

What to watch for:

  • The Panthers have been lead by Sophomore RB Ray Graham who has 685 yards and 7 TDs. He also has added 150 receiving yards with another TD. The Panthers have been giving Sophomore RB Dion Lewis more carries as of late and he has 479 yards and 5 TDs.He has a TD in his last 3 games.
  • The Panthers have the better QB in Sophomore Tino Sunseri. Sunseri has 1,672 yards with 12 TDs and only 4 Ints. He had his second lowest passing total of the season last week, 123 yards with 0 TDs and 0 Ints.
  • The Huskies have been all about running the ball this year. Junior RB Jordan Todman has 954 yards and 9 TDs. Todman has rushed for over 100+ yards 6 times this season. He has only failed to eclipse the 100 yard mark once and that was at Louisville in a 26-0 loss. When Todman is in the starting lineup and reaches the 100 yard mark at home, UConn is 3-0.

This football pick will come down to defense. Pittsburgh is more well rounded, while UConn RB Jordan Todman has been amazing this year. Pittsburgh should have used the bye week to study how UConn has been defeated this season. They will put 8 guys in the box and will try to replicate what Louisville did to UConn two weeks ago. UConn will try to put on a show for their fans at home, but expect Pittsburgh to be ready to stop the run in this one.
